Shay Given made his 19th start of the season
Damien Duff was an unused substitute
Since Shay has played every game this season for Newcastle, his season record is identical to theirs. However, Duff's presence has a much greater impact on the results for the Toon. Duff has won 42% of his home games, whereas Joe Kinnear's side have only won 33% of their home games overall. On the other hand, the Ballyboden winger has yet to start a win away from St James' Park.

Irish Abroad for Monday, 29th December 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/dateDetails.xquery?seasonID=138&date=2008-12-29
John O'Shea has started 15 games this season, by comparison he only made 17 starts last season for Manchester United
Ian Harte started for Blackpool, his first minutes of football since April 20th0 -
Graham Gartland has joined St. Johnstone until the end of the season.
Darren Murphy to Stevenage Borough.0 -
Irish Abroad statistics for December 2008: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/december.xquery
The Reading trio Stephen Hunt, Kevin Hunt and Kevin Doyle won the most games, picking up three points on five separate occasions
Swansea's Thomas Butler started the most draws, the Dubliner finished the month with five draws
Butler was also the join most booked player, picking up three yellow cards, along with David Van Zanten
Shay Given finished the twelfth month as the goalkeeper with the most wins (two) and losses (also two)
However it was Glenn Whelan, Rory Delap, David Bell, Andy O'Brien and Gary Doherty who tied for the worst month. Each player came away with nothing from a game five times
Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt and Clinton Morrison all started the same number of games - seven - but it was only the duo playing for the Royals who completed 90 minutes each time
Noel Hunt was the most substituted player. The Reading striker was withdrawn from the action six times, four of these were at home
Similarly Reading's Shane Long was introduced from the bench five times, along with Leon Best and Lee Trundle
Clinton Morrison scored four of his ten goals this season in December, however Coventry only won one of the four games where he found the net0 -
Irish Abroad statistics for season to date: http://www.chatsoccer.net/irishabroad/halfWayReport.xquery
Kevin Foley has started the most wins this season, the Luton born player has won 19 games this season for Wolves.
Richard Dunne has won the fourth most games so far (11) but also lost the fourth most (10)
Unsurprisingly, Championship players dominate the most starts chart, with six players (Sean St Ledger, Kevin Foley, Chris McCann, Stephen Hunt, Stephen Quinn and Lee Carlsey) all starting 28 times for their respective clubs
Incredibly, Foley has completed 90 minutes in each of his games
Kieran Westwood is the only goalkeeper to be substituted in 2008/2009
Despite the column inches dedicated to the number of Robbie Keane's substitutions (16) Noel Hunt has been substituted more. The Reading player has been withdrawn 17 times
Shane Long was introduced more than any other player, and by some distance. The striker came off the bench 19 times, Lee Trundle and Andy Keogh are in join second with 15 points
With goalkeepers the least likely player to be introduced, it's not too surprising that Shane Supple has stayed on the bench 28 times this season for Ipswich. However, more troubling is that Darren O'Dea has been benched 16 times so far in 2008/2009
Kevin Doyle is by far the top Irish goalscorer this season, with 16 goals in 26 games. What makes it more astonishing is that none of these are penalties. Fellow Royal (albeit on loan) Scott Davies is the top penalty taker, finding the net five times from 12 yards (including two in one game) while at Aldershot
Despite Doyle's record, it is Noel Hunt who is the leading talisman for the season so far, Reading have won each of the nine games where Hunt has scored0 -

Wolves are no longer playing Wardie as a striker. He's RB, AFAIK, and rather a good one too according to Mick.
Is that a typo? I'd imagine he is being played as a left back, he played a good bit on the left wing with us and is left footed. Think there's another Irish guy (Foley?) that plays right back at Wolves.
Wardy did well when he was called up to the Irish "B" side.
Speaking of the name Foley, Dom*nic has been doing well with Gent since his move there, surprised he never got near a call-up to the international set-up again (although he isn't playing in England so no chance of that...)0 -
Graham Gartland has joined St. Johnstone until the end of the season.
Darren Murphy to Stevenage Borough.Wolves are no longer playing Wardie as a striker. He's RB, AFAIK, and rather a good one too according to Mick.0 -
Keith Fahey has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Birmingham City on 2nd January on a three-and-a-half year deal.0
