The KWA tokarev looks quite promising. Wonder who will release their version first, KWA or SRC. Hopefully a Makarov in the future.

I've actually been looking forward to this. It's a tad longer than the P90 (which is arguably a tad too small anyway), but operates in a similar fashion and takes a regular STANAG magazine.
Now I quite like my P90. A lot. But it can be a bit awkward to shoulder due to it's short length and the specialised magazines are a pain to get pouches for (and when you do get pouches, they're usually a pain to use). This design addresses all of those without one of those ridiculous STANAG-to-P90 kits, all of which should be hunted down, collected into a specially built Orion rocket and fired into the sun with all due haste.

I'd say the biggest will be the likely €450+ price tag for having the Magpul name on it. Either way it will be another bullpup so I will end up getting it. Will be my 3rd Ares bullpup at that stage.

So I take it them that Magpul are finally going ahead with the real PDR after teasing it out in 2008, or is it the case of the PTS department wanting something else expensive to sell.

Ohhhhh 7.62 receiver. Shmexy. I'm a sucker for these, it's the reason I got the SR25. I'd be curious to know if this needs the SR25-style long gearbox though...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭MerryDespot

That is as sexy as a very sexy thing alright...

As for the magpul pdw ... it's growing on me the more I look at it. I can't say I've anything against Ares ... the masada has been rock solid, despite plenty of use ...
What does drive me cracked is the re-release of the magpul m4 'manufactured in house' by magpul - i.e. identical to the G&P magpuls, but made by Ares, and more expensive. If I'd a pick between g&p and ares, g&p win.

Great name they got there, Iron Ridge Arms. On the side of the receiver.

Reminds me of the Massoud with all that Magpul gear on there.

would say it will be based on the ares sr25 so it will be a sort standard v2 ( well standard for ares anyway )

There's a number of people on here who've had bad experiences with thier QC, myself included. I'd still buy Ares, but whenever people ask I say you need to budget a bit extra because something will probably go wrong with it. My G36 needed a new cylinder head and piston for example and the semi-auto quickly wore out (a small part in the gearbox being made of steel rather than plastic would fix this actually).

The first generation of Tavors definitely did not help thier rep in this market especially since it was pricey and very gucci.

Incorect, first gen american imports Ireland got... a lot of other places had fine ones... tbh it seems like the Ares USA imports that have a bit of naff qc... I'm not going to start flag waving, but ive never had these problems :( I've had thier sa80, g36, and Tar21 and never had a hickup... This is turning into the new CA... ghost of airsoft ****ed.

What is that sr25 thing? Its really nice! its even growing on me!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

CA earned that rep in stripped gears and cracked bodies. I've seen more than I can count first hand. It started with their sportline models, and would have been fine had it been confined to such, but it spread to some (I emphasise some) of their high end versions too.

I have two CA G36's. One of the older ones, about 4-5 years old, when they were top of their game, and one of the newer ones, about 12-18 months ago. The difference in just about everything from quality to materials is shocking.

Word of mouth with these failures spreads just as quickly as word on fantastic performance. I have no particular brand loyalty, but I'll only recommend something that's guaranteed to work from my own experience, and a CA just isn't one of those.

As for Ares, I've heard mixed things but also that the new gear is a damn sight better. I have designs on getting three of the L85's that only they do, so I'll find out soon enough for myself.

It's an IRA-10 or IRA-X is the new typing of it. It's based on the AR10 platform rather than the SR25 and is made by Iron Ridge Arms. There is a few variants of it in carbine to full rifle lengths.
