I wouldn't. They'd need more maintenance than an '80s Alfa Romeo.

You're getting Old Dex...better change that sig :p

Is it going to be open bolt?
As in it fires from a open chamber.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

No, and if it did, it'd be a ridiculous design error worthy of scorn and contempt...

Its just a confusing marketing term to say that the false bolt carrier retracts to leave an open breach on firing, its default position being closed.

It replicates a closed bolt fire arm, and is called an open bolt system because the older system had no bolt function at all. Its stupid and confusing.

It is a closed bolt firearm in the real steal.

I know the RS SA80/L85 fires from a closed bolt as does the SCAR-L and the M4 but that hasent stopped WE from making open bolt varents.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

the open bolt thing means unlike the other WE models, the bolt now does OPEN, ie, it moves. rather than a slidy bit, and pipes through the bolt area etc...

Also wb .22 lover, not seen you in ages :)

I hope the guy wasnt aiming for the hole in the target at the end... if he was, that accuracy was shocking... they were bouncing off the walls everywhere. ><

Absolute shame... they copied ICS's handguard of fail, and i'm not sure what they did with the gas parts at the front... *sad face*

Pity, I might have got one of these, not so keen now. its like WE went 'well its roughly an sa80 that will do!'

Feck sake WE, all you had to do was copy the Star/Ares L85 like they did with the EBB G36s. There goes the DD rail option. Have they got their heads screwed on at all. They took long enough making the fecking thing.

Was thinking that myself, hopefully someone will come up with a suitable rail in time:rolleyes:

That, and I have a Star Mk1 handguard that I wanted to fit on one. Can't be done now. I can understand this design feature for the AEG to make changing the battery quicker and easier but why on a GBBR when you will only take it off to fit a new handguard.

I'd love for WE to get a lot of stick for this and they release an "improved" version with a proper replica front end design. A job for RA Tech me thinks.

.....which they'll charge an arm and a leg for the feckers!!!

Why wait? if you want it, get it, and mod it yourself... dont wait for some company to make a fix kit.... It sucks a bit, but its sortable.

Boom Arms, They sell an Army/G&G compatable version, and the Ares/Star/real steel variant.

Nice one! yea the modding needed can't be that difficult. Worth a go anyway when i do get mine.

The modding needed would be to fabricate a small block of metal and weld it under the barrel under the front sight post, then tapping and threading a hole to fit the screw that comes with the handguard. That's at the very least.

Cheap way: Get an Army L85, hack that piece off. File, mold and super glue or putty mold it in place. May take a few tries to get the hole in the right place. Very fiddley and trial and error work. And it will have to be very secure as the force needed to open the gas piston door on the RIS.

Or just buy the Ares front sight and outer barrel you can buy separately instead of a whole gun?

Anyone notice the front sling mount on the wrong side at the end?

you mean the one on the handguard? might be able to move it like the ARMY L85 one.

Stood out like a sore thumb first time I saw it. It can be swapped over though, looking at that screw that goes through the handguard. Why it comes fitted that way out of the box on a righty only gun is another thing.

Also, look at the green plastic that stays on the receiver to act as a mounting bracket for the fore end, that will have to be cut off to fit the DD RIS.

you can probably move it like the real one too... Unless its like the sodding ICS grip it seems to be, then chances are it might be very weird to remove, even if its possible.

And the real one does swap left to right, as does the rear mount... hilarious token ambixextrous feature on a righty only rifle :D
