Well, not enw because I'm sure it has been done before many a time but anyway...

Once apon a time I walked into a place to get my tongue pierced but was told I was not able to have it done because of that of the skin thing under my tongue (it came up too far).

Sooo after thinking about this for a year I have decided to get two piercings in my tongue, one on each side, ie one on the left and one on the right (I have a big big big tongue) :)

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this anyway. And has anyone got this done or know someone with it done?

It sounds like a really fun mini project :D

sounds fun! i know the piercer i use here specialises in custom piercings and stuff, and on his card, there was this pic of someone with three piercings on their tongue, im pretty sure, they were black lined jewellery, and im really annoyed i can't find it now, cos it's not on his site... sounds like a great idea though, you know the rule...

    PICS!

Aye aye, I'm thinking of going to Glenn in Adonis because he seems to be into weird piercings :)

I have a lot to get done. The worst thing is I broke my bed last night so I have to shell out a few hunred quid for a new one and to make it worse yesturday I bought a new HD TV for my room that if I had known I was going to have to buy a new bed I wouldn't of bought the TV :(

It does, but it's making the room look like a mess and I don't like that, sooooooo.

Cheap futon bed = spare money for body mods. :)

Might bebest off to get the two done seperate though as I don't want too much swelling.

Can you explain or show a picture of what a "wing" piercing is?

I have just seen them on BME under the name 'Venoms'. That could be what he called them, this was years ago.

I had them before. Too much hassle for me - lasted about 6 weeks. I thought they would be alright and that I could handle them but nothing in the world could prepare you for the aftercare! It's extremely tough. Find a very. very good piercer. They're easier to not get perfectly in line than you would think.
Research more, and good luck, 'cus you will need it! :p

Some piercers won't do them due to the placement and the size of the veins running along that side of the tongue. That's not to say there aren't competent piercers to be able to get them done :)
There's gonna be a lot of swelling and it'll be really uncomfortable for the first couple of weeks, neurofen will be your best mate, but like any piercing as long as you look after it and have heaps of patience you should'nt have any problems.

Here's a video from some website that sell body jewellery, theres two parts in it where they show a person with two piercings, looks really cool i have to admit.

I asked the guy in snakebite about it and he said that it would be very bad for your teeth, due to the fact that they're very close to the side of your mouth.
Can't remember whether or not he said he'd be willing to do it though.

I'm assuming it would hurt alot more than a piercing in the middle of the tongue, due to the fact that you're going straight through the muscle, and hence alot more swelling.

Best of luck BTW, and like a poster said earlier, pics if/when you get it done, and where you got it done!

FWIW, that website sells alot of nice jewellery quite cheaply, although I haven't had a chance to try any of it out!

From the BME article that links to that pic:
    Long Term Health Issues
If a horizontal tongue piercing is not done properly it will cripple the piercee's ability to speak. This is not necessarily because of damage caused by the piercing, but because the placement of jewelry inside the tongue interferes with mobility.

In addition, there are serious tooth-chipping risks due to the edgeward nature of the beads. Properly fitted jewelry (ie. the bead should sit flush with the tongue, with no bar showing) will minimize the chances of this, and flat or teflon/nylon beads may also be considered to minimize potential tooth damage.

Most piercers do not consider this a viable piercing because of the almost unavoidable side-effects.

That's quite extreme to say the least :o would almost definitely destroy all your teeth.

    Yeah, so interesting story.

Wen't to Glenn today and he wouldn't do it, said there were times he would of but during his time he knows a lot more now and the risks are just not worth it.

He did however say I could have a normal tongue piercing which suprised me since I was told in the past it was a no no.

Anyway he really seems to know what he's talking about, gave me a big lecture on the tongue and so I decided to go with it.

So far so good, doesn't hurt at all, can't speak properly right now which is annoying but oh well.

My friend had the horizontal one, but then she had done the tongue split, so she actually has two horizontal bars in her tongues ;)
