presently I have mackie 1620 onyx firewire .
id like to sell this and stay mixing in the box .

I feel the sound may be improved a great deal using nuendo 8 io 96 converters which i may be able to purchase from a friend.
this will connect to reaper based pc using adat ( which im not familar with to well )

    probelm is this ,,

how do to connect the pres ( dave bg1 , FMR rnp , and 4 channells of soundcraft ghosts ) ) to the nuendo , ( I guess trs balanced cables ?)

how do to connect the nuendo converter to the pc ( adat to a pci card of some type im guessing ? )

and finally how can I monitor the mix on phones / monitors ?

and lastly maybe add in some outboard like compressors/ reverbs somewhere ( patch bay maybe , but from what to what ?)

So at the moment you have no Adat ins anywhere?

    yeah, nothing

I have at moment a dual xeon dual scsi disk server with one single pci slot
this has a firewire card to talk to the mackie.

i want to sell this and the mackie

and put some class of an ADAT card in its place ,
that will talk to the nuendo converter
and also provide montiroring out to active speakers and a headphone amp
as the nuendo has only analog in and outs ( 8 each ) and adat in out

so if the mackie goes i have no audio solution to monitor with .

and somehow be able to use outboard effects etc ;-)

    damn this upgrade bug !

no, cos i have only one slot and window ( that ones takes up two pci windows )

but thats what im thinking of alright - you reckon i could do it with something like that ?

    well the link doesn't :p

this is a cheap and cheerful little job!

not as fancy as the RME but works well for us...

You are going to need all sorts of extra sh1t for monitoring properly with that convertor...

ok, i noticed the rme is dual window with expansion board, so I could use it in one slot without expansion board.

so , if i have this , and the nuendo , and i adat the nuendo to this ( i guess two cables )

this means I reckon i get flies into the pc and reaper .

so i play back the files -

what do i then need to hear stuff ?

    my head is wrecked

one slot eh? M-Audio so or a firewire interface. The profire 2626 has plenty of I/O options...

    or this http://www.sonic-core.net/en/products/dsp6.html

    Serious stuff!!!

I seem to remember the Apogee Rep telling me they were Apogees , some thing that was similar to the AD800o series as i recall.

    Perhaps there are different versions?
It's a few years (4 anyway) since I was told that.

It looks like an RME, buttons etc...
    And they are both German!!

I've seen a few issues on the forums with the m-audio light bridge. I now have a profire 2626 which gives me 24 tracks in and out when I use the adat i/o.

That's 16 tracks of Apogee converters into a laptop which is nice!!! Run the audience mic's and backing vocals through the 2626 analog inputs!!! So I'll be recording gigs if anyone's interested!!!

here is how i see it so far , its connecting the outboard as insertts that has be flummoxed .

Patch bay is gonna be necessary there so. Would be good to have it across the inputs too. Does your DAW allow you to insert I/O's on the channel? Latency etc?

im using reaper , and it allows you to bang loads of plugin inserts on each chanell, but im not sure how youd assign outboard in this setup .

id rather use some external stuff instead of plugins if possible.

not sure how to patch this lot together .

why would the nuendo have ins AND outs ??? in analog ?

im trying to avoid using a desk if possible you see.

Insert send goes to an analog output through your outboard unit and the analog input is the insert return. On the channel strip you should be able to select an I/O instead of a plug in. No desk needed you just strap the effect across an available analog I/O. Usually from channel 3 up...

Best way is to sit down with a pen and paper and work out your patchbay setup first...
