Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Radon Barrier on Vertical

We had our radon barrier installed by the gorundworker today and went to inspect it this evening and it doesn't seem to be to a great standard.

We also have a step (450mm high) at a few locations through the house and the engineer has told us that we need to get preformed radon corner cloaks to ensure that there is a complete seal at the corners (both internal & external on the vertical)

    See attachment.

However, the groundworker hasn't done this before and isn't keen on doing the job and with the standard of his work on the horizontal sections I'm not too keen for him to do it as the radon is acting as the DPM so needs to be completely sealed - a few of the sections he has done the radon tape isn't even stuck to the barrier. In a few places we could reach through and touch the hardcore. He didn't use top-hats on the service pipes either and these all need to be re-done :(

Am I better off getting an actual proper Radon Installing company that has experience of such jobs to start the job again or is it something i could do myself easily enough if i took my time over it?

Has anybody used such a company and if so any idea how much (roughly) it would cost? Ground floor is 214 sq m with 20m x 450mm of step with about 11 corners on it.

It goes without saying - get someone who knows what they are doing. A small price to pay to avoid the risk of being exposed to the deadly gas.

He sounds like a cowboy if you can touch the hardcore, and there are no top hats....
get a specialist for this job, it will cost a few bob more, but it is one job that has to be done properly..
It is generally accepted that radon is the second most important cause of lung cancer
    after tobacco smoking. (from http://www.rpii.ie/Download/Radon%20ActionPlan.pdf)

I was thinking he was a bit of a cowboy alright - i think it was the 10 gallon hat and spurs that he wore on site the last day that really gave it away.

I'm just waiting on prices back from a few radon companies to see how much it will set us back - if it's very expensive i'll just take it off john wayne's bill at the end as his price included installing the radon.
