    Hi guys,

Been lurking and reading for a while and have decided to make my own build. I feel I have spent the last 4 weeks reading this forum and other sites etc and have only discovered how little I know. I never tried anything like this before but would have enough tech knowledge to get by and be looked on by friends and family to help with any problems they have. I like the idea of the challenge and the potential once I've done it once to be able to upgrade and build as and when I need to. Anyway I need someones help to spec all the parts on www.hardwareversand.de so I can order the parts and start to put it together. I know I should research each bit myself but believe me i have and i'm pretty lost as I didn't realise there were so many options.

    What I need it for
To play top games and alot of Second Life (I build and fight there) in Second Life I want as high a Frame per second as possible I'm on a laptop that can give me up to 30 but know other people who go to 70+ I know someone who has two Nvida 9000 series cards and gets good performance. The games well I have none yet but will buy some of the best after I've built it.

    My Budget

€1600 (If reccomended I can push it up a little) for that I'll need all the parts for the system and a monitor, keyboard & mouse. I have a Vista HP CD for my laptop so I presume I can use that for this build I think you can install it on more than one system at once.

If you have any other questions just ask?

Thanks in advance for your help

€1600 euro is a nice budget to play with.

    Cpu- Q6600:

    Ram- 4gb ddr2:
    http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=19500&agid=677

Motherboard- Depends on sli or crossfire:
    Sli - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=21822&agid=659
    Crossfire - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=21823&agid=659

    Cpu cooler- http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=20577&agid=669

Graphis card Nvidia(can upgrade to a second at some point) - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=22222&agid=707

Graphics card ATI(can upgrade to a second at some point) - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=22354&agid=717

    Case - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=19356&agid=632

Hard drives - Cant find them on the site, but 500gb spin points will do nicely.

Psu - A nice 800W antec quattro or true power, or a equivilent corsair one.

    Screen - http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=10362&agid=603

I didnt look for deals, i just picked up the items quickly. But it will give you a basis of what you need.

For 1600 you have a lot to play with..

If I was you I would go for..

A Q6700 quad core (slight slower than a q9450, but almost 100 euros cheaper), however with that money you can get the q9450 which has a bigger cache or a core2duo 8600

4 gigs of pc6400 ram, about 80 or 90 euros, dont buy crazy expensive ram you won't get much of a performance boost unless you are hardcore into overclocking..

An expensive case with anti vibration sound proofing, to be as quiet and aesthetically pleasing as possible, spend a good bit on this I think, ask the guys I am not a case expert

Invest in a good power supply (corsair 650w or higher) and GOOD sli motherboard (sli will mean that you can double up and keep playing top games thus extending the life of the pc)

For graphics I think the ATI 4870 is the best at the moment really, read a few reviews to make sure you get a model that doesn't run too hot or loud

Definitely go for a 24 inch monitor, the Samsung SyncMaster 245B plus is 308 on hardwareversand. I have a 22 inch and its almost perfect.

    1 tb samsung drive

All that will still come to just about 1200, don't go overboard, remember a very good motherboard, power supply and case are essential, the other parts can always be upgraded..

    For now a core2duo 8400 to 8600 / quad core 6600, 6700, 9450 processor
    coupled with a 9800GTX XXX, ATI 4870 or a 9800 GX2 graphics card

will run almost every single game at highest settings no problem (of course only with exception of crysis, which is always the exception)

Spending any more than that is really overkill

Thanks for the replies guys will be coming back to you after I've gone through each option but it gives a good start anyway. Johnny you said to make sure and get SLI motherboard above but reccomended a ATi card I thought these only work with crossfire and sli was for Nvida or have i got that wrong? Is there a clear advantage between Nvida and ATI cards or is it more branding, if I get an SLI motherboard i'm locking myself to Nvida right and visa versa?

You can use an ATI card on a SLI MOBO and Nvidia card on Crossfire MOBO

But for SLI on a SLI capable board you need 2 Nvidia cards and for Crossfire 2 ATI cards on A crossfire capable board.
