Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why wait? Just check what programme is on the EPG at 3pm

And to assist you even further ---

If you have the Irish version of Setanta the following programme should be on the epg,
    Setanta Sports 1 - channel 423
    14:50 Live Barclays Premier League - Mid'boro v Tottenham
Live coverage from the Riverside Stadium as Gareth Southgate's Middlesbrough entertain Juande Ramos' Tottenham Hotspur. Both sides have their eyes on European qualification this season. K.O. 3:00pm

If you have the UK version it will be

    Setanta Sports 1- Channel 423

    15.00 Sports Saturday

We await with interest, although my money is on the 2nd option but I hope I am wrong! thanks

Setanta Ireland is available in the UK also. What does the EPG say for Setanta Sports 1 at 3pm?

Is the football viewable on channel 423?

forgive me if i'm missing a lot of obvious points from this thread...

I'm on freesat/fta sat but i would quite like to watch setanta (mainly the rugby tbh) . If i was to get a secondhand sky box with viewing card do i need to subscribe to sky first and then subscribe to setanta?

Or is it possible then to subscribe to setanta with a normal inactive card?

Or Am I able to get a uk fta card and then subscribe to setanta?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Setanta Ireland working ok. But the Setanta sports 1 is not the irish version. So no 3pm game. But if i put the card in my dragon the setanta sports 1 ireland is working. its a bit of a mess, whish i hadnt have given them my uk ftv card number

This is a real longshot, but you could try adding setanta sports 1 Ireland via other channels and give it a lash.

Strange now, Now I have put back into my digi box, no setanta working apart from Setanta Ireland and the club channels (Rangers, Celtic, Arse, LFC)

You have the Irish Setanta subscription but the UK EPG. Both Setanta Sports 1 UK and 2 are blocked to Irish viewers at the moment. That will explain why they are not working. Tuning in the Irish versions to Other Channels should work.

Edit: Setanta Sports 1 (UK version) is currently viewable on an irish subscription.

so to sum up then.... does setanta sports 1 (ireland ) work with the soccer on now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

yes but only via my dragon cam and technomate with irish sub on a UK FTV card

No mate i haven't tried it yet. I will when i have some spare time. I'm messing around with a few other things at the moment. Hopefully if we get a break in the weather i am putting another dish up just for 28east this morning.

was just onto setanta myself there and they told me categorically that there was no way to get a card off them.
Perhaps they've changed the policy in the last little while. :(

This is a change from their previous position and very short sighted of them.

quite annoying tbh. Maybe it was just the punters i was talking to...they did seem quite clueless.

Might try again in the morning. Might be a more "senior" supervisor to talk to...lol

Is there a legitimate method to get an irish sky card without subscribing to sky?

What if you wished to sub to the "adult" channels? Would it work then? Would TVX send you a card which could in turn be used for setanta?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

The porn channels do send out a card afaik but why anyone would want to subscribe to that crap is beyond me.

Perhaps Setanta and sky have done a deal so you have to subscribe to at least the basic sky sub if you haven't a card? Strange.

Another example of "Rip off Ireland"

Sky sports + Setanta each month would be a minimum of €71 a month am i correct? Where we better off for soccer viewing when PPV (Prem plus) was available?

Thats shocking compared to other european providers pricing for similar packages.

I hate to think what the future holds in regards to sport viewing?

Rugby, Cricket and dare i say it GAA all going down the same route as soccer has gone.

I'd be surprised if they had as this would raise price fixing and competition issues.

Indeed Tony, it would cause all manner of problems.

All the independant channels can issue a card where a subscriber does not subscribe to sky. The asian, adult, horseracing etc etc can and do issue sky cards to non sky subscribers.

There is no comparsion between the adult channels on sky and what is available on the internet for free. ;)

Indeed. It is a crazy way to run a business.

I think you need to speak to a manager to get any good of this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,958 ✭✭✭✭RuggieBear

tbh...i'm just going to try and buy a card second hand with digibox

I agree with others, ask to speak to a manager.

If you're going for old card and box, you'd probably need to decide on whether you want UK Setanta, or Irish Setanta, which seems to depend on which card you have (UK card = UK Setanta).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

The card is not yours to sell. It is still the property of Sky.

does that mean i can't buy one with a digibox legitimately?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    @ sudsandsurf

    Also you can't advertise here.

Obviously the card belongs to NDS, so you can't sell it. You have to give it back if they ask. You do own the digibox.

Someone else using it till Sky / NDS ask for it back is a greyer area.

If the previous person left it in accidentally, as Sky had not asked for its return, then I suppose you could use it till the original person is asked to return it, and asks for it back.

I've not actually yet heard of Sky or NDS ask for a card back, but the card does belong to them, thus can't be sold. Someone else using it is a horse of a different colour.

adverts.ie or boards.ie or eBay etc will thus pull any adverts to sell a card.

i had this problem lately. Renting a house and have the main HD box in the sitting room and a 2nd standard box in the kitchen. Like you, i just wanted a 2nd card/account and like you, they insisted i'd need to run phone lines and get full multiroom. I ended up talking to customer service where the guy confirmed I COULD get a '2nd hand contract' - he told me to put it in my gf's name and organise it through an independent installer - so that's exactly what i did and we now have 2 seperate cards/accounts for the 2 boxes and have since changed the packages on both without problems.

Just to finalise this. I can only get a separate viewing card for the spare box to use for Setanta Ireland sub by getting a 2nd sub with Sky,subscribing for a year (€21)a month and €19.99 pm for Setanta. It wud cost me €40.99 pm for a year in total thereafter €19.99 pm.

If I got multiroom it would cost me €33.99 pm indefinately plus cost of getting phone line done. If I could just get the card activated and pay Setanta it wud cost €19.99 pm indefinately. As it stands unless someone can tell me another way of getting an Irish viewing card legally I am snookered.

Surely this is a case for a watchdog- do we have one in Ireland??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Can you sub to multiroom for just 1 month (just cancel after 1 month) and then use the card for setanta?

Perhaps, although would have to do the phone lines etc...However,if it was definate that the card could be used as you say it wud be worth it.

    Irish Consumer Protection? :(

The various Quangos are to ensure even competion and decent sized pie slices for the Corporates. The Consumer votes are not deemed to be linked to Consumer issues.

Sky will cancel the Multiroom after one month if the phone line doesn't work :)

And when they cancel it do you think the second card will still able to be used to subscribe to Setanta?

    Of course it will. :)

In my experience its more likely they will charge full price for the second card if the callback fails.
