Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, it's that time again where we place our ballsacks on the chopping board and confidently predict Optimistic Position, Realistic Position, Most Important Player, Breakthrough Player and Best Signing for our respective EPL teams.

Last years thread is always good for a laugh with some staggeringly accurate predictions as well as some fairly out-there ones (Newcastle fans, bless :)). Plus I was fairly on the money with mine

And so for 08-09, I predict...

    Team: Liverpool
    Optimistic Position: 1st
    Realistic Position: 3rd
    Most Important Player: Torres
    Breakthrough Player: Plessis
    Best Signing: Keane

    Team: Man Utd
    Optimistic Position: 1st
    Realistic Position: 1st
    Most Important Player: Rooney
Breakthrough Player: Nani? Anderson will imo improve immensely this year. Nani got 14 assists last year so he will improve but not that much.
    Best Signing: Berbatov :)

    Optimistic Position: 1st
    Realistic Position: 3rd
    Most Important Player: Torres
    Breakthrough Player: N'Gog or Insua
    Best Signing: Keane

To the Liverpool fans saying Plessis will be a breakthrough player. I cant see him getting many games ahead of Mascherano, Lucas, Alonso/Barry.

With the amount of injuries Aurelio gets I think we will see Insua more than Plessis.

    Team: Man United
    Optimistic Position: 1st
    Realistic Position: 1st
Most Important Player: Rio or Rooney...both!
Breakthrough Player: Anderson and Nani but I think they wouldnt be "breaking through" so I'll go with Possebom.
Best Signing: Manucho........by default.....maybe! Does Ronaldo count?! :pac:

    Best Signing: Friedel (so far!)

I reckon Spurs and Everton will pip us for 5th and 6th. If we can add about 3 more players before close of the transfer window we'll be right in the hunt for 5th.

    Team: Newcastle Utd
    Optimistic Position: 5th
    Realistic Position: 8th
    Most Important Player: Martins
    Breakthrough Player: Enrique
    Best Signing: Coloccini

Optimistic as always. I think we'll have a much more consistent season this year in terms of performances. Last year we were dreadful all the way through until the last 10 games or so. I mostly attribute that to Allardyce, the massive overhaul behind the scenes, as well as major changes in the playing personnel.

Still expect one or two, maybe even three more signings before the transfer deadline. And hopefully Alan ****ing Smith off the wage bill if Everton are daft enough!

    Team: Pompey
    Optimistic Position: 4th
    Realistic Position: 6th
    Most Important Player:Lasana Diarra
    Breakthrough Player: Glenn Little
Best Signing: Crouch. really look forward to his partnership with Defoe.

If we can sign a decent leftback and get SWP then i think we can hang on to the coat tails of the "Big Four" and try and steal 4th spot. This would require one of them to have a bad season though. everton seem to be weaker this year and i'm not convinced about Spurs yet (Although i think it will come). so I think 4th/5th and 6th will be contested between ourselves, Villa and probably Liverpool.

    Realistic Position: 3rd
    Most Important Player: Gerrard
Breakthrough Player: Plessis (maybe Dani Pacheco if he gets the games)
Best Signing: Dossena (subject to late signings) I think he could be the answer to the left side problem.

    Team: Aston Villa
    Optimistic Position: 3rd/4th
    Realistic Position: 5th
    Most Important Player: John Carew
    Breakthrough Player: Delfouneso
    Best Signing: Luke Young

I still think we might make 3 more signing. The defence is finally taking shape. Kaboul would be a great addition as he could play centre half or a holding role in midfield. Up and down season with Spurs but has huge potential.
Huge season for Carew. We need 20 goals from him this season.
In the little I have seen of Delfouneso he reminds me of Adebayour.
Villa will be very hard to beat this season as they showed last season they can score goals and with the new defence hopefully they will concede alot less.
