making a cd for the car to replace nursery rhyme stuff (and barney) for young kids as its doing my head in ;). I was thinking of regular songs with a singalong chorus. prefer egular tunes rather than disney type stuff. They might do my head in as well but at least they are different.

    eg.
    beatles - yellow submarine
    Capt sensible - happy talk
    Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy (I won't)
Bob Marley - Three Little Birds

    any ideas welcome...

I've a 5 year old girl and the tunes on her compilation cd at the moment is...
    Octopuss's Garden
Standing in the way of control- B Ditto
    Dancing Quenn and Mamma Mia.
    American Boy
    Werewolves of London
    Thriller, Billy Jean - Jackson.
Works for her on long journey. Tellsya though the best of Bob Marley, ABBA or Jacko keeps the car a happy car.

Why didn't my parent's have the beatles for me as a child?! Instead I got disney classics and other such nonsensical cheese. It's a wonder I ever managed to develop a decent taste in music...

Jack Johnson did the soundtrack to Curious George which could also fit the bill... It's actually pretty good.

Yeah, what are you trying to raise, a nation of wusses??

Obviously kids want to sing stuff like -

"Who are the Brain Police" - Zappa & the Mothers
    "Zombie" - the Cranberries
"I Smoke Two Joints" - the Toyes
    "DOA" by Bloodrock

and that cool funeral tune, "The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out".

6-year-old girls really go for "Mr. Big Stuff" by Jean Knight and "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morisette.
And how could we forget that anthem of age-challenged people everywhere, Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness"?

Don't try to feed them pap like "Sing a Song of Sixpence" or "On Top of Old Smokey" or the Barney Song. It'll damage them.

I personally recommend getting them started on multi-part harmonies by covering sections of Handel's Messiah, especially the Air and Chorus from part one. :pac:
