Total Station Issue

    I know this is not exactly DIY but I figure if anyone could help me on boards it would be you guys. Im having an issue with a Topcon total station. The locking mechanism for the vertical optical unit refuses to lock. It means that the machine is practically floating and its interfereing with the internal gyroscope. I opened the unit and had a look at the horizontal mechanisim but the vertical is behind the battery pack so I didnt venture there. Has anyone any idea what might have caused this and how it can be fixed.
