Interesting (for Civ Engs at least) road failure on Main St in Howth today, at the west side entrance to the church grounds. There's a culverted stream running all the way under Main St. The culverting seems to have been damaged between last and this weekend and the failure has resulted in a gouge being washed out under the road which is at least the size of an estate car. Can't see exactly how big with the car in the way, but it is at least 1.5 m deep and 5 m long, possibly much longer. Car parked up at 1pm and they came back to find the front right was in a what is a small hole with the big gouge visible below. It's so big that using a tow truck to remove the car is quite possibly not a safe option. Council were just along and reckon they might have to pull up the whole of that street section. Trouble is that if there's more deluge on the way, a lot more could get washed out.
