Any ideas as to when we are supposed to register for this?

What are the History and Politics students planning to do next year? :)

22nd of September is the start of term according to ...
http://www.ucc.ie/en/registration/dates-procedures/term-dates/

Keep checking this page for the history tiemtable...
http://www.ucc.ie/academic/history/pages/Undergraduate/Timetable+-+Third+Arts

Also while your at it look through these and have a really good think about what modules you want to take...
http://www.ucc.ie/academic/history/pages/Undergraduate/Third+Arts

If you have clearer idea of what modules you want to take then it will save you time when its time to choose. Also its very important that you keep checking for the timetable, first lecture= v.important, as I learnt to my detriment. Just wish one of friends had told me college had been started for a week when i was down the pub:pac:

QFT.

3rd Year really does start on day one. Particularly in History where, apparently, they want to do the massive majority of the work in one year.

Also: No matter how well you've done without them up until now DO NOT skip tutorials this year. They are the lifeblood of your final year. Skip them and see how much fun May and June are.

What modules you thinking of taking? I didn't think the choices were too bad, only ended up with one module with Irish history and that was just half the core.

Only taking 30 credits, International Relations 1, Vietnam 1968-2004 and the Reformation look good. A lot of the ourses don't interest me, plus I would like to keep clear of certain lecturers and keep the history in some way close to those in politics.

Mike Cosgrave used to do a fantastic British Public Policy and Decision Making 1952-1994 class a couple of years ago. If he is still doing that I would highly recommend it. In fact any of Mike's classes although his WWII class was restricted to the top results from the previous year so you had better be a swat like me.

Also Donnacha O'Corrain is a great lecturer and all of his classes are fascinating. Once you learn to spell, speak Irish and never incorrectly use a comma he might even get to like you.

Yeah David Ryans stuff is fantastic. If you're considering doing the Post-Vietnam course, i'd also advise you to do the one on the vietnam war itself aswell. It's two five credit modules but taken together it's like one big 10 credit one that runs for the whole year. I'm a bit of a US foreign policy junkie, so maybe that's just me.

I'm not actually that big into US History, but I did the Cold War in first year and almost felt obliged to do Ryan's courses in second year.

I do like his classes, if only because he is one of the most straightforward and best organised lecturers out there.

Just registered for third year Arts. Doing a joint honours with History and Politics. Doing...

History

Science To Religion from Copernicus to Darwin
The US and the Vietnam Wars
US Collective Memory, Intervention and the Impact of Vietnam

Politics

Political Extremism
Political Philosophy In Theory and Practice
Questions in Moral Theory
International Relations 1
Global Governance 1
Contemporary International Crises

Wasn't particurly happy with the choices, particurly with such a large module as history. Reformation and International Organisations the only other subjects to interest me. Should we turn up for all the classes in the first week or whats the deal? What subjects are everyone else doing?

For 3rd arts history you have to go to the first lectures. They hand out forms for module choices in that class, which you have to fill out and hand in by a deadline at the start of October. Gabriel will give a very very detailed walk through of the form in the first lecturer. Everybody hands up the form at the same time and your choice of subjects are decided by your results from second year as well as demand for the module. While it looks like you can choose your subjects online for history as far as i'm aware (as of this year just gone) you cannot pick your subjects that way. You have to go fill out the form, unless you have already?

You seem to be contradicting yourself there. Are you telling me registering online now makes little difference?

I will go to the opening classes, although getting up a 7 am on the 23rd is going to be painful, very painful. ;)

I was just leaving the possibility open for Ucc to go change everything all over again
But for the last two years history modules are chosen by the form given out in class not the online system!
Once you submit the form, gabriel goes off and selects the modules. Being gabriel you will probable know within 3-4 days. After that you have to register the modules with exams and records.

I had the same question. Thought they might send an email or a letter with regard to the details but not a chance. It was just available to do it:D

Still don't know the deadline but I'm assuming the 22nd....and by assuming...hoping.

Third Year History timetable finally put up here.

Just to make this clear - beyond registering our choices online, I'm assuming we also have fill out forms for our seminar and subject choices the first week back, forms we get in the opening class? Which is presumebly the Historical Debate class on the Tuesday.

Yes that is completely correct. You will most likely have to have the form dropped to Charlotte before friday. Get ready for the best lecture ever with Gab! He will go through the form in graphic detail on tuesday. p.s i strongly advise European imperialism (PIRATES!) or armadas is there available. Best classes ever .

That history timetable is nice and easy to figure out. Anyone know to decode the timetables on the generic page? http://timetable.ucc.ie:8008/programme.htm Some of the classes I'm trying to select have one slot a week, others have six. Awkward little system they have going on.

I assume that 'GG_LT' is the Geography/Geology Lecture Theatre right?

The same place First History students have US Foreign Policy.
