Hi- figured this is the best place to ask this.
3pay has a mobile surfing 1GB add-on, which is great. What's not so great is that they block a huge number of sites - anything adult or anything which might appear linked to adult content, which includes many blogs.
They also block any of the known proxy sites I have tried.
Does anyone know a way around this ? prox that they dont block or some other method ?

    cheers,
    fm

Opera Mini uses their own proxy which isn't blocked yet.

..I'd never sign up with someone who analyzes, filters and restricts my content.
Are you sure this is permanent and not just some 'default' setting on your account which can be disabled?

    regards Carsten

it's running on Windows Mobile so just get to select the WM connection it should use. This version doesnt use its own proxy like Mini. I expect I could configure it in the Windows connection itself, but i would need a proxy that they don't block.

three used to block loads of ports but they don't anymore. would i be right in saying that whenever you first load the browser you get a warning saying something about it costing 49c if you don't have a bundle?

some people still have this problem because it seems that 3 are only fixing it on a case by case basis when people complain rather than doing a network wide fix. what you need to do is call 3 and explain to them the problem. the problem with this is that the person who answers the phone needs to:

    1. understand what the problem is (some websites are blocked and lots of ports)

    2. be able to solve it or be willing to escalate it to someone who does understand the problem and is able to solve it

it took me over three months of almost daily calls to find such a person. you will be told to turn your phone off and on many, many times and they will attempt to log your phone in for repair. just keep at them and force them to deviate from their script or they'll take your phone away for a few weeks to wipe it and when that doesn't work, they'll try to keep doing it until you give up

the thing that finally got them to understand what the problem was i told them that java applications couldn't conect properly but the built in browser could so explain that to them

no everything else is fine, and the only problem is with adult sites and some blogs with inline ads for adult sites. connection is otherwise wide open on any port.

they say "we dont promote those kinds of sites so they are not available on the network"

ah i see i misunderstood the problem. give me a few examples of sites that are blocked and i'll try them later to see if they're blocked on my account. i've never come across a blocked site so if i can get to them and you can't, then it is something they can switch off

kind of funny because apparently you can buy porn off the three uk portal.

also, you should tell them you can do a google images search for the word porn and find all manner of stuff even with their blocks in place

I wonder about the legal aspect of blocking this. Whether or not they are promoting this or not, I don.t think they are allowed to block it. That type of content is not illegal to view under Irish law.

i just remembered i gave my 3 sim card to my gf for her holiday because her sim wouldn't work where she was going so i won't be able to check that i'm afraid. Can anyone else try it?

You gave your gf your 3 SIM. Need one point out the error in your ways?

I don't see any legal issues with blocking content once it's clearly stated in the T&C - is it?

I'll try the websites on my 3pay SIM shortly and let you know.

www.proxylist.com has just loaded on my Sony Ericsson k810i with 3pay SIM. I have age-verified with 3 using my credit card.

    www.offshoreip.com also works.

Aren't we all very lucky that mother Three is so determined to protect our morals - http://www.mulley.net/2008/05/13/three-ireland-banning-irish-gay-sites-for-the-sake-of-the-children/ - unless that is you want to buy a pic or screensaver of an objectified 'babe' from their Irish portal or some soft porn from their UK site.

Maybe (probably) they've covered their legal a**es in the T&C but the last time I checked I was an adult so I figure it's my responsibility to look after my own morals - no????

It would be one thing if they were blocking sites that could conceivably use so much bandwidth as to have a negative impact on other users but this seems much more in a 1950's Ireland stylie.

Don't get me wrong - unrestricted internet would be great but all I'm saying is that if they say they don't support it and IF it's in the T&C then there's not a lot wrong with it in my opinion.
