Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

seems official. wonder how many seats will be used for the game; will they put temporary seating like we did at Croker?

There won't be any temp seating for this. Seems like 19,000 tickets will be available. I'd advise people to just book flights and worry about tickets later.

Looks like venue might have to change

The Georgian Football Federation have confirmed that their World Cup group eight qualifier against the Republic of Ireland will take place in Karlsruhe, but the venue is not available according to a statement from the German club.

FIFA decided that the match, due to take place on 6 September, must be moved from Tbilisi played at a neutral venue due to security concerns in the country.

The GFF have now selected the Bundesliga ground - where striker Alexandre Iashvili plays his club football - as their chosen venue.

However, a statement on the club website revealed that logistic issues would prevent the match taking place.

FIFA had been expected to give their official seal of approval on Wednesday.

The German venue, the 32,306-capacity Wildparkstadion, is the home of Karlsruhe SC.

FIFA ordered the Georgians to nominate an alternative as political unrest continued in their country last week.

Collie we could be sitting in a very empty stadium, will have no hassle with tickets though ;)

Two venues being looked at today, both near enough to Hahn, here is hoping.

    Match now confirmed for Mainz.
After carefully assessing the situation, the Bureau of the Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ today decided that the preliminary competition match between Georgia and Republic of Ireland will take place at a neutral venue due to the current unrest in Georgia.

Although the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) had hoped to host this match at home in Tbilisi, it will now be played in Mainz, Germany on the originally scheduled date of 6 September 2008, with Georgia acting as the host association.

Last week, FIFA had asked the GFF to name an alternative venue for this match in order to be prepared should the situation in Georgia still require a neutral venue.

    Squad has been named:

    Trapattoni names Republic squad
    Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:50

Damien Duff has been ruled out of the 22-man squad for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Montenegro.

While winger Duff has been forced to withdraw with a groin injury he picked up in Newcastle United's 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the weekend.

Defender Paul McShane, however, has recovered from the knee problem that ruled him out of the recent friendly against Norway in Oslo.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni bemoaned the loss of Duff for the two games which launch the Republic's World Cup qualification campaign on 6 and 10 September, starting with Georgia in Mainz, Germany.

Trapattoni said: 'It is a shame that we have lost Damien Duff for the two opening qualifiers. He started very well and he is a very important player in the Irish squad.'

The Georgia match will be played at a neutral location due to the recent problems in the country.

Trapattoni added: 'I am happy that FIFA and the Georgian Football Federation have made a decision to play the game against Georgia in a neutral venue.

'We understand that it was a difficult decision to make but feel it was the correct one given the need to prioritise the safety of players and fans.'

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND squad to play Georgia and Montenegro in World Cup qualifying matches on 6 & 10 September:

Given, Kiely, Bruce, Delaney, Dunne, Finnan, Kelly, Kilbane, O'Brien, O'Shea, McShane, Hunt, McGeady, Miller, A Reid, S Reid, Whelan, Doyle, Keane, Keogh, Long, Murphy.

I still don't get the new forum rules, so I don't know when a match thread gets to start, so I'm leaving that here.

No Duff is frustrating. Do you reckon then that he'll start with Hunt, or with A Reid on the wing, and save Hunt as an impact Sub?

Reid will certainly start imo. He's been excellent for Sunderland so far this season. Brady and Tardelli were at the Spurs game. Hunt isn't really suited to Trap's passing game.
