    hi guys

i like to play airsoft (its a game with replica guns firing 0.2g bbs at 100m/s

what i'd like to make is a firing platfrom with remote control

i would also have a camer and monitor so i was wondering how i could get the platform (tripod) to rotate left and right (180's) and tilt up and down (45's)
and of course feed and fire

the gun is about 5kg and 50cm long

would servos be possaible to use or would i need motors spinning gears

    thanks for any advice

The pan/tilt can be done with servos.
Thar hardest part would be automatically loading the gun.

Tilt and pan is very easy. Here is the mechanism in parts and made with a camera mounted:

Load and auto reload is rather more awkward to achieve with a simple reliable system.

These guys have it all worked out in RC battleships:

    Here ya go:

    :)

For loading, just use a auto-winding box mag or modify a normal high cap mag with a motor to wind it instead of winding by hand.

The motors used for the mounts above are 4 of these http://www.servocity.com/html/gdp985a-bm_pan_system.html, very good motors and really well built, but pricey.

For the remote control, you could use one of these:
    http://www.servocity.com/html/2_servo_joystick.html

For the rig above, the guns are actually controlled by a re-wired computer game joystick and then connected to a make controller, this takes the inputs from the joystick and tells the servo's where to go based on that, it also interfaces the trigger button on the joystick with a mosfet installed in each of the guns to make them fire, this in turn also powers the C-mags (which are modified to constantly wind once they have power). The mount itself needs a bit of re-working to strengthen it (the video above was done about 2 weeks ago and was the first field test) but the software and motors are pretty much sorted now.

Ah that project's been in the works for a while now, needs a bit of tweaking like I said, but fairly happy with it so far.

There's a few other people thinking of building one by the way... Just so you know :)
