Help! Boiler sounds like it's going to blow up!

very alarming noises coming from the boiler this morning. don't know if it's just a coincidence but it happened just after i had turned the upstairs thermostat dial down. the fault F14 started flashing. have misplaced the manual. can anyone tell me what it means and if it's safe enough to turn all the switches off in the…
