Wheater gets his goal. Spurs as always falter :)
Feel bad for Gomez, he made an amazing save but the defence didn't respond to the rebound like the opposition.

19 year old Keith Treacy just came on for Blackburn. Great to see another young Irish lad in the Prem.

Speaking of Irish players, Caleb Folan makes it 2-1 to Hull.

Irish 'international' Caleb Folan scored for Hull.

    lineup :

    Reina
    Arbeloa
    Hyypia
    Carragher
    Dossena
    Kuyt
    Plessis
    Gerrard
    Benayoun
    Keane
    Torres

Playing Plessis before Alonso is pretty dreadful to be honest. Alonso can do a better job as a defensive midfielder than Plessis. Also think its very strange to play Hyypia seeing as he has barely played in pre-season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    Reina
    Arbeloa-Carra-Hyypia-Dossena
    Kuyt-Plessis-Gerrard-Benayoun
    Keane-Torres

Subs: Cavalieri, El Zhar, Aurelio, Ngog, Skrtel, Agger, Alonso.

    Mike.

Oh Spurs, you're such a funny team :) Never a dull game :)

It's clear that Spurs desperately need a midfield enforcer, desperately. They've nobody who can win the ball back, noone.

Here I want Liverpool to win EPL, but that midfield is **** on paper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Alonso dropped. Ballsy from Rafa. I think it might work today, but I don't think it'll work long term. Gerrard is now once again the deciding factor in whether or not Liverpool win. If he can perform well and dictate play well, Liverpool will win. If not, they will lose. 2 years ago all over again.

    surely the formation will be

    Reina
    Arbeloa-Carra-Hyypia-Dossena
    Plessis-Gerrard
    Kuyt
    Keane
    Benayoun
    Torres

strange that agger is on the bench, maybe since stevie is a holding mid Rafa doesnt want Agger coming forward with the ball as often as usual.

sure theyre not playing anyone of note

spurs will continue to flounder until they sort their defensive game, thats been obvious for a long long while and still hasnt been addressed

They have one but sadly for them he is brainless. They should have signed Carsley.

Alonso has a dead-ish leg apparently. Argies win today so Masch won't be back for a while :(

Why is Rafa picking Hyypia ahead of Agger and Skrtel?

Oh and Aliadiere for League 2!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,067 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

Also - why is El Zhar on the bench above Nemeth ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

meh, all promoted teams make decent-ish starts.

Tell that to Stoke fans! :P

in fairness whatever player starts in those holding positions will dictate the play if they play well enough. not fair to say its like 2 years ago - we are a much better side in every position now.

All skill, no steele. Great game to watch, that Alves chap is a real catch.

    I see Everton lost...woot!

Ramos isn't a premiership manager. You could get away with his tactics and offensive play in La Liga but not the Prem.

    Welcome back Woody :D

It was a good game to watch, Spurs flair for 10mins arsing with the ball then Boro would just hit them direct and cause all sortsa problems. Spurs: the new Arsenal.

Alves is a real handful, great find.

No but they gambled on him when nobody else would. Bit like Blackburn and Santa Cruz. Boro gonna have trouble holding onto Alves IMHO.

he needs to find his scoring touch tho

Could well do. We need a good finish this season if we're going to hang on to most of our stars i.e. Alves, Downing and quite possibly Wheater.

Can I be the first to declare that Yossi is bloody useless and stands no chance no chance of either scoring or assisting today.

    There, should be okay now.

    Sundireland

    01 Gordon
    21 Chimbonda
    05 Nosworthy
    15 Collins
    02 Bardsley
    08 Malbranque
    04 Tainio
    20 Reid
    10 Richardson
    11 Diouf
    14 Murphy

    Substitutes
    13 Ward, 06 Whitehead, 07 Edwards, 16 Chopra, 18 Leadbitter, 22 Higginbotham, 44 Stokes

    Mike.

Lol 2mins 2secs - Robbie Keane's first aimless stepover dummy that leads to the breakdown of an attack.

    Some things never change.

That's not a bad midfield they have there. Not a particularly good one either, but definitely an improvement on what they started with last season.

Andy Reid looks so unfit, how does he get away being so overweight?

He may be 'overweight' but he doesn't even not do the running he's meant to. Also he's very talented so its fine :)

Gerrard is clearly on instructions to shoot on sight :) Somebody doesn't rate Gordon :)

On a side note, how does Gerrard hit that corner so that it goes up and down so much. Which part of the ball does he hit?

    **** reffing,
firstly if you let play go on your playing the advantage, the hint is in the name,
the advantage there was the clear penalty,
then the wall thing which bugs me in all games - I remember him booking someone who wanted the awall put back once.
