Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And that ... should've been a penalty for a shoulder to the back of Benayoun.

    Andy Reid's distribution is excellent.

Zzzzzzz. What a borefest so far.

    The Dossena looks woeful.

That's what's great about Andy Reid. He doesn't move much - he just stands in the middle of the park knocking great passes about. Which is exactly what Sunderland needed when they bought him. Everyone else was running around like headless chickens.

I think Dossena has been better in this game than the last. He seems like he's adjusting.

Corner delivery is terrible, as usual.

Phew, hard work. Liverpool are clearly not up to speed in body or mind.

If only we had Gareth Barry

Kuyt & Benayoun offer nothing on the wings in a 4-4-2. You have to wonder why Pennant isnt playing. Id take him over Kuyt on the right wing in a 4-4-2 for sure.

Well can anyone tell me where Keane is meant to be in relation to Torres? They could be on different planets atm. 4-4-2 sucks.

    Mike.

El Zhar might have to come on and do a job in that wide right position.

Seems to me like a clash in systems.
Torres got used to play in a 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard behind him. Keane does not play like Gerrard. They haven't adjusted yet.

Feel sorry for Keane, the midfield is not performing and he's getting no service.

Once again, Gerrard is anonymous in the the centre of midfield.

    Alonso coming on?

    yep Plessis off.

Woohoo. Maybe Rafa won't settle for a 0-0 after all. But I think it was more to do with SideFoot Charlie being injured than anything positive from Rafa.

If Sunderland had anything resembling a striker this match would be over.

Then again if Liverpool had anything resembling a midfield it could be a decent game.

Gerrard and Benitez are clearly just too stupid to figure out why Ronaldo doesnt take corners for the mankies.

For those others that also can't figure it out, its because he's one of their most dangerous players in and around the box.

Liverpool creating now, Alonso making a difference, Gerrard is getting going too.

Some nice linking play now Alonso is on. Yossi doing well. (sorry I forgot Yossi is crap ;) )

    Mike.

Alonso has made a difference but is it enough?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Ngog on and Kuyt off, put Yossi on the right and Ngog wide-ish left (he has a nice left shot)

    Mike.

    Yip.
Like we play a "striker" at right winger because he's a better defender than any of our right wingers.

Anyone got Rafa's mobile number? I wanna ring and ask for the last hour and a half of my life back.

Thank Christ the rumours of us going for Yuseless Benayoun didn't materialise.

That shows exactly why I said Keane and Torres are too simalar!

Torres should have scored. Did Keane get in the way or what?

    Getting better, Gordon looking nervous.

Would have done if Robbie had a brain.

At least they're having a good go and playing a fair bit better.

    El Zhar on for Keane!

    Mike.

Would certainly have taken off kuyt before Keane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,951 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Can't help but think this game is crying out Crouch??? Liverpool need to get a goal this is excatly the type of game that has cost them over the last few seasons away to mid table sides, United and Chelsea don't have the same problems.

I hope we don't just sit in our own box for the next ten/seven minutes, its just asking for trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Can't argue with sheer class. Great goal. He's probably better off up there on his own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Phew, the benefits of having the best striker in the world in your team. Don't fook it up now lads.

BTW, Alonso, best player of the 2nd half.

Appalling that anyone could pick Plessis ahead of him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Was just thinking how Keanes confidence will have been hit by seeing that go in after he left the pitch.

    You're probably right mike.

Alonso when he came on really looked for the ball. He even made a good few pretty poor mistakes. But he seems more willing to lose the ball in this half than I've seen him before, and as such, he's forcing himself onto the game a lot more. Impressive stuff from him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,716 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Someone would want to tell Rafa you can't really play 442 without wingers. No craft, no imagination, no guile, no chance of the league. Great finish by Torres, he didn't even look to see where the goal was. Will be a long season for Robbie Keane I fear, bad for Ireland.

Sunderland would want to go out during the week and buy a couple of strikers.

Terrible match, very average players on show from both sides, maybe 2 chances in the whole game.
