Yeh it's very good. 1 nil to Chelsea for those of you not watching.

I'm trying to figure out the formation is it

    Mikel

    Ballack
    Lampard

    Deco
    Cole

    Anelka
    ?

It's hard to tell, but I would have said so far it's:

    Mikel

    Ballack
    Lampard
    Deco

    Cole

    Anelka

Whatever it is, they are playing very well.

    Edit: 2-0 Anelka

Wow. Chelsea look very very good indeed. 2-0

Hope we see lots more of this throughout the season. 4 defenders and the rest are attacking tbh.

    Oh yeah, 2-0 :D

While Chelsea are playing very well, what the hell has happened to Portsmouth's defence? There's some shocking defending going on here

Should United be worrying about Chelsea?

35 mins into Chelsea's season? It would be a bit premature IMO, shouldnt be any more or less worried than ya were this time yesterday

I'm just as worried about Chelsea as I was before this match :) They are our biggest threat, with Arsenal close behind.

I am interested in their system though. Cole and Boswinga are bombing forward and the main providers of width. Against teams with decent wingers who can punish that, their full backs will have to stay back. I'm interested to see how they will cope without that width from their full backs.

United dominated Portsmouth just as much in the Charity Shield (without a good portion of our team). Difference is Chelsea have taken their chances.

True, but thats not to say they will be short of ideas when they do stay put. They seem to have a wealth of options up front and Deco really has added another dimension to their attack. Based on what I've seen today Im very excited about the coming season. :)

I can't believe how much nicer they are to watch. Under Mourinho and Grant they were always effective, but awful to watch. Now they look very well - their movement and passing is more like how United or Arsenal would play. I've mixed feelings about that, to be honest :P

Im glad Deco is looking amazing again. He needed to revive his career, it's really amazing how much he has won and how good he is even though most people wouldn't consider him up there with the best midfielders in the past 7 years. Chelsea look very very impressive, I'll be looking forward to Man Utds reply.

The way Scolari sets up I'd say they'll just try out score the opposition:D

    Hopefully no more boring Chelsea.

Looks like Pauly Shore is allowed do as he pleases today. Handball, elbow and shirt pulling is all fair game.

Fitting end to a great performance from Deco.

    From BBC:
Wayne Rooney recovers from a virus to lead the line for Manchester United and he is partnered by youngster Frazier Campbell, as Carlos Tevez has flown back to Argentina following a family bereavement.

I'm very interested to see how Frazier Campbell gets on. Feel sorry for Tevez though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Barry should of scored there, Villa all over them but can't finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

No Tevez ,returned home , family bereavement,

Sad for him, but ****ing hell, worst possible time :/

Campbell is going to need to perform today, let's hope he can step up to it
I've got a weird feeling Fletcher is going to win us the game today

    ---

    Barry really shoulda scored.

another really good Barry chance... Reo-Coker actually looked like a RW!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I think it's more to do with Garrido being a woeful defender than NRC being a good winger.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

yup def Garrido cos NRC in terrible on the wing hense my surprise that he actaully looked good talking on and beating the LB going to the byline and putting in a good cross Barry should have finished. Though tbh he is playing as the right hand sided of 3 CM's and not as winger a wing but he needs to cover that are when Young (in his free role) isnt.

Portsmouth in shock poor performance against any of the top 4 excpet United

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Villa on top and could be ahead but its still 0-0 at half time. City not offering much offensivley but without Bojinov, Jo & Benjami thats to be expected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Villa 0-0 City at half time, City came back into it a small bit but Villa should be ahead

Villa should easily be in front. Man City have been atrocious.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    0-0 half time

barry shouldve scored, so should carew

city had a few half chances, but i think we just shaded it

its great having a decent goalkeeper i have to say. no need to sh*t yourself every time the ball goes near the 18 yard box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭dubmick

    why isn't Tevez playing?

Crap tbh. We're away from home, missing about 6 players and we've played reasonably well. Ched has led the line well on his debut, Micah has been fantastic and Elano has shown some nice glimpses. Happy with the performance so far.
