Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Bray Wanderers v Dundalk 7.45pm

Galway United v Athlone Town 7.45pm

Dundalk have a good shout against Bray - they havent scored in 5 home games.

Rovers have a great chance to hammer Cork tonight - if the game goes ahead. Severe weather warning from Met Eireann

Get out of the chicken coup man.

Cork might be going throught difficulties off the pitch but on the pitch we are more than a match for your team.

Was thinking of getting on them myself , We havent got a great record against Bray though. Also me miss dessie baker , Derek Doyle whom are both cup tied.So lack of fire power up front could cost us here , but then again our defence has only conceded one goal in 7 games.

Like the two times you barely scraped a draw against us so far this season?

I hope the game is on tonight. If its postponed, we will be playing a Cork thats had to release all its players and that will be no challenge at all. I want to win this cup with no 'what if's'.

Gonna head to one of the games tonight. Either Rovers or the Bohs one.

Think the Rovers one has a better chance in more goals so I'll head there.
Should be a good game. Interesting to see how the pitch is too.

    Don't recall scraping draws.

Think it was the other way around.

should be a good game. Cup Holders against the "Cup Specialists":D

About as confident as I ever am for a big game, no replay please...

Brendan McGill has signed till the end of the season. Whatever about our financial problems etc Ive been impressed with the contracts handed out recently last year Turner Mcginley etc were getting 3 year deals, J Byrne got a 3 year deal but since then I think our last 4 signings have been a 18 month contract and 3 6 month contracts

He's doing exactly what he did with us to yous.
Roughly what would he be on? To give a player who doesn't even start most of the time a three year contract is beyond a joke.

In fairness to Byrne hes not getting a look in, Crowe and Fenn are forming a good partnership and when he has come in he has scored a fair few goals, Id say hes on 2-3k a week. Probably closer to 3k.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Fair enough Crowe and Fenn are keeping them out.
But do you not think it's crazy to have three strikers fighting it out for two places with a combined total of about 10k in wages?

It's nuts and exactly what Fenlon was doing to us. If I was a Bohs fan I'd be pretty worried about all these contract offers going out when its the ground which there taking the money out of.

McGill was on trial with City a few weeks ago. He wanted too much money. I don't know how much we wanted him either. This was before we signed Dudfield.

Absolutely and as I say its the last big contract handed out, since then the Lithuanian, Deegan and McGill have come in on 6 month contracts and Anto Murphy got an 18 month contract. Doubt any are on huge money. 7 or 8 players were offloaded to see them come in. And as far as Byrne goes when he was signed Fenn hadnt scored in a year for us. But yes Id prefer to have someone else in on lower wages.

Mcgill - he was on trial with us first, Id say that we refused to give him what he wanted so he went to Cork who didnt give him what he wanted now weeks after the window closed Id say he accepted a smaller contract with 4 months to prove that he is worth a lot of money in this league.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bohs or Pats sign Gints Freimanis. He was on trial with us last week and Mathews wanted to sign him but....:D He's said he wasn't paid in Riga for three months and is really eager to play football in Ireland. He also reckons we don't have anything like the problems they do! :D

I'm told City didn't leave first gear to bat a god awful shams side tonight.

Is the tag "cup specialists" being used ironically at them these days or what?

How the **** was that a red card?

    Shamrock Rovers 0-1 Cork City.

Good win for City tonight, Behan with the goal.

O' Flynn was subbed just before half time and taken to hospital with an injury to his right ankle :(

Ref was poor... Let Drogs away with it twice in first half. Crowe was free, brought down from behind last man, stonewaller. Dope of a ref gave a yellow.

Did the goalkeeper get a second yellow or was he booked immediately after first yellow for descent? Cant remember him getting booked before tackle and he defo got a yellow after tackle

Easy win for Cork, Rovers were muck. Happy enough with the result in Bray, anything to even slightly distract Dundalk from the league! :)

Cork held on easily enough after the goal that came from nothing. What Cork have ever seen in Behan is beyond me.

Up until the goal it was an enjoyable match which could've went either way. Doyle was unlucky to hit the post in the first half and O'Flynn had a great chance on the end of a great move only stopped by Murphy. Gamble and Rice were running the show. Rovers tired at the end and petered out.

Certainly not as bad as other Rovers games that spring to mind.

It was a second yellow for their keeper, they were lucky only to lose 2 players to reds. Kalonas was brilliant, huge selection headaches when our injury crisis ends.

Was it not 'cos he won MOTM? They sorta had to interview him.

It was a second yellow. Ewing got booked in the first half when in the incident you mention in the first paragraph above, Crowe was clean through and Shelley took him down and the ref only booked him. The 'keeper then got booked presumably for dissent.

Thought we were very impressive tonight, considering we're still missing our 3 centre halves, 2 right-sided players in Anto Murphy and Joxer, as well Glenn Cronin.

I wonder if the Carrick and Sporting Fingal game will go ahead with the torrential rain overnight.

You were told wrong. Rovers by far the better side until the goal, your first chance, and then Cork stuck 11 men behind the ball. It was classic smash and grab. We were toothless up front and hit the post but don't kid yourself you were the better side. We dropped the ball here.
