LATE GIG @ WINGNUT - JAPANESE STUFF!
    30 May, 2012 20:30

If you are around this evening (30th) then there's a free open air gig outside Wingnut (Hard Times Bookstore, 2 Peter Street, Waterford).

I'll be playing (miXile) as well as a touring Japanese group. Cheers.

    Some bio stuff:
    DARUGARIES
Darugaries was formed in Osaka, Japan in 2002. They play a kind of traditional, psychedelic meditation music in an idle performance. Their music is founded on bass guitar around which voices, wind instruments and electronics weave. We can also hear electronics and percussion played on whatever found objects come to hand. Members and musical instruments come and go as time passes. On this tour the band is playing bass, trumpet, clarinet, trombone and electronics.

    miXile
miXile has been working in the area of Ambient Electronic music / Sound / Performance Art since 1988. He has released 6 albums and regularly performs at festivals around Europe.
His music is travel based and concerns location. From 2006 - 2008, he produced a 3 album series of music about journeys through Australia. He makes extensive use of field recordings from locations he has visited.
Since 2010 he has been travelling back and forward to Berlin, carrying out field recordings and writing music about the city and his experiences.
In June 2011, he premièred some of his new material at the Ambiosonic festival in France. Since then he has improvised the music at around 15 more festivals and events around Europe. Each performance is a development of the last. New material is added and older parts retired over time. New field recordings are included after each visit to Berlin and entire tracks are developed specific to each performance.
A resulting live album of European performances will be released later this year.

The lovely people of Waterford Youth Arts are staging Brecht's infamous Happy End (a sequel to The Threepenny Opera) in Garter Lane Tues 28 August - Sat 1 September, 8pm.Tickets: €12 (€10 concs), group rates available. There's a special preview night rate of only €7. Not to be missed and a great night for everyone! For more info check out https://www.facebook.com/events/410726705650109/ or https://twitter.com/HappyEndPlay

"Set in the gritty streets of 1920s Chicago, Happy End tells the tale of an unlikely love affair between a virtuous Salvation Army worker and a hard-boiled gangster. This steamy musical pairs Bertolt Brecht’s biting and witty social satire with a thrilling score from Kurt Weill and with some of his most popular show tunes, Happy End later became the source for the well-known musical Guys and Dolls.
Happy End is directed by highly acclaimed Jimmy Fay who has a string of hit shows to his credit. In recent years he has been associate director with the Abbey Theatre and has directed the work of Sam Shepherd, Roddy Doyle, Mark O’Rowe and many others. He has also directed the hit commercial comedy shows based on Paul Howards’ Ross O’Carroll Kelly character.
With the band El Higado No Existe live on stage throughout featuring Kevin Power, Joe Meagher and friends, expect a musical with a difference as they bring a 'Tom Waits' feel to the night. Featuring 20 local teenagers from Waterford Youth Arts with choreography by Trish Murphy and video and set by Neil O’Driscoll, the show will have an energy, a sense of fun and biting menace. Happy End packs a political punch closing with a song in ‘tribute’ to the rich and powerful of this world."
