I hope Kilkenny beat the tar out of them to be honest.
Have a sneaky bet on Waterford since Davy took over at 14/1 so my winnings would help ease the pain should the upset happen.

These Waterford players have done some pretty brutal things in their time so to still be loved by the neutrals surprises me.

Do people not remember the brawls in '98 ?
Ken McGrath breaking Gerry Quinns hand in '02 ?
John Mullane "accepting" his ban for striking ? The martyr indeed......
Dan Shanahan turning his back on Justin McCarthy as he left the pitch in Limerick this summer

Kilkenny like them or loath them are a class act, take defeat on the chin and never gloat, a savage team.

The brawls in 98? ...started by Clare.
    Gerry Quinns hand?...its a game, **** happens
John Mullane accepting his ban? ....he did the decent thing unlike players from other counties who appeal to every level of the GAA and then take it to court.
Justin Mccarthy? Great servant to Waterford hurling but his time was up.

You're post has a feel of trolling about it, makes you wonder where your actual allegiances are.

Kilkenny have the ordinance and they are going for the three in a row. Waterford are not desperate though. They know their weaknesess. i'm told Davy fitx has brought all the team to Scotland to get away from the hype and focus on the game...and only the game. i think this is all too much for Dan the Man. He looks a beaten man, or perhaps this will work to his advantage (so crazy it might just work) either way, history will be made and i can't wait.

tickets are starting to appear everywhere since last night. I had none now we're sorted. try the old triangle or the big tree sunday after 12 and you'll get them, nothing to loose but only ask supporters, the touts can go and shag off

I think you are mixing up Waterford and Kilkenny - Kilkenny are in fact the hot favourites, Kilkenny have the outstanding team and the Kilkenny people are the ones expecting to win .

I also hope that Kilkenny hammer them... if the ref is awake to the diving antics of Eoin McGrath and Eoin Kelly in particular then Waterford dont have a hope.

no, I am also hearing it around a lot, Waterford people feel they will do it because they 'deserve' it more...it's all nonsense, the ones who win are the ones who deserve it the most. The Kilkeny lads are not cocky, they are going for a three in a row but they just love hurling, no hype with the likes of Tommy, Cha etc...they just wanna play hurling.

A lot of this sounds very similar to what we were hearing from Limerick last year, they felt they deserved to win because of the year they had...all nonsense, they were not up to the pace on the day and the Cats punished them.
The same will happen to Waterford on Sunday if they are not up to the pace and all the jersey kissing in the world aint going to change that.

Of course the same applies to Kilkenny, if they are not up to the pace they will be taken by Waterford if Davy and the blues have done their homework.

Still, I have to say Kilkenny because of the depth they have on the bench.

More gibberish ....very similar to Limerick last year ?? absolutely nobody from Limerick was cocky last year - most of them expected a beating .... perhaps you are confusing a bit of banter with arrogance ?

Wasn't it never discovered who actually struck Gerry Quinn in the first place? There's been plenty of names thrown out there but no one knows for sure.

all the way from Chicago!! Why didn't you ask me, I had a spare;)

All Ireland Day is gas, loads of accents from the states as ex-pats make it home for the event, great to see, a re-union of sorts.

Last year I was sitting beside a lad from Limerick who was jetlagged form his trip from Sydney and almost direct to Croke Park...the lad was exhausted...it wasn't a great day for him in the end.

Well I'm making the trip on a Delany's Bus from the Village...up the Cats.

I noticed two sets of tickets went on ebay tonight for over 2 grand for a pair! I got mine in Ulster today and can't wait til Sunday to make the journey.

    Up the Deise!

As a neutral, I can't see past Kilkenny.

Its not that Waterford are not a good team, but they will all have to play above and beyond themselves and Kilkenny will have to play at 8%-90% of their potential for the Deise to have a chance.

    Kilkenny are just too good.

You'd be very hard pressed in name a single player for the Deise who would be better then his Kilkenny counterpart

Not strictly true. The likes of Eoin Kelly, John Mullane, Ken McGrath, Seamus Prendergast etc would all be pushing hard for a place on the Kilkenn team.

Kilkenny are undoubtedly a top class team but you know the way we're all talking them up here Waterford might as well stay at home. KK deserve to be favourites but it's not as clearcut as some people are saying. Waterford themselves have more than enough quality players to give Kilkenny plenty to think about. As I see it they're going into this game with every chance.

Any Waterford supporters thinking like that are only kidding themselves. They'll get no sympathy from Kilkenny who are as ruthless as they are talented. I was watching the 2006 Mayo-Kerry final in Dublin city with a gang of ticketless Mayo supporters and they were sure Mayo would win as they 'deserved' it more and it was their time etc etc. And we all know what happened to them.

thanks for that deise59, no real surprises. I was just keeping an ear out for injuries in the past 2 weeks, there's nothing worse than hearing one of the lads has picked up an injury in training on the build up to the AI final because they were tearing strips off each other...sure I suppose it has to be done.

It will be interesting to see how the bench comes into play on Sunday...c'mon Eddie Brennan, knock another early goal in like last year <fingers crossed> :)

I can't understand so many people saying Waterford, it really is romance vs. realism. So long as the 3 full backs -

perform as they have been recently , then Waterford will get nowhere near a goal chance. And they haven't the skill around the midfield to clock up enough points for a win. Kilkenny by 7 points would be my prediction.

That is disgraceful and should be illegal if you ask me. Even the clubs in Waterford who have been following the team long before the championship this year are having trouble with demand for tickets.

Counldn't agree with you more. One of the other sellers on ebay, as well as making a killing on their tickets, were looking to charge €1 per mile "travelling expenses" for delivering/meeting the auction winner. While I understand that ebay serves a purpose organisations should monitor the selling of their "wares" online and be working with ebay to prohibit it... I think U2 managed it a few years ago. Shame on those who are seeking to make money from genuine fans who just want to see their team in the final

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the word "abú" only apply once a team has won? My understanding is that it doesn't mean "go on the..." (Déise or Cats).

So if I'm right, you're getting a little bit ahead of yourself? Maybe a proper Irish speaker can tell me whether I've got that one right?

    UP THE DÉISE!!!!!

fricatus, abú simply means "Up", so Cill Chainnigh Abú translates as "Up Kilkenny!" Presumably it is some kind of derivative of "buaigh"=to win, but that's for more analytic souls than me.

Hey leave us out of it... most Mayo supporters would never bank on anything the team does because they always have a habit of playing great one day and being all over the place the next, particualrly if it is in Corker. We would all like to win it but we have to earn it.

Anyway I hope for hurlings sake that Waterford do it. I watched the semi in France and the number of Waterford supoorters balling their eyes out, just for getting to final shows how much it means to the county.
I was working in Clare in 95 and it was similar. It meant so much to the people for Calre to first win Munster and then eventually the All-Ireland.
Kilkenny or Cork win every other year and I think it goes to show Cody's greatest achievement is in being able to keep his teams and players performing at the top without complacency.
On paper, and after seeing them destroy Cork my head says Killkenny but my heart wishes Waterford.

PS I also know a few very arrogant Cats that could do with their tails being trimmed a bit ;)

I am not allowed discuss …

I will take a gamble and say Waterford by a point. Form and logic would suggest Kilkenny, but there's no doubt that this Deise team is capable creaming the Cats. Hunger and desire will count for a lot, and i think that Waterford will have more in both departments.

Whatever about KK winning, as thats hard to call, I would have thought that neither team would get a thrashing as such. The win for either would be pretty small - I would expect.

But yes... Up The Deise! Beware of the underdog!

Interesting turn of events - I didnt think it would be easy for either team but Kilkenny are doing brilliant. They have this game in the bag at this stage.

just a massive gulf in class. Killkenny better all over the park, defence playing class and whenever they go forward they look like scoring. Wonder would Tipp have provided stiffer opposition...

    HalfTime 2-16 to 5points.
