    http://www.dublinairport.com/gns/at-the-airport/latest-news/12-02-06/Iberia_To_Expand_Dublin-Madrid_Route.aspx

Iberia is planning a 21% capacity expansion on the Dublin-Madrid route from this summer.

The route, which is currently operated by Iberia franchisee Air Nostrum, is to get a larger 177-seat aircraft from June and additional summer frequencies. Air Nostrum had previously operated the route with a 90-seat aircraft.

The expanded service to Madrid will also enhance Dublin Airport’s international connectivity, as it will offer improved connections to South America, Central America and South Africa through Iberia’s main hub.

The expanded Dublin-Madrid service will operate daily in June and August and eight times per week in July. There will be flve flights per week in each direction during the winter months. Flights will leave Madrid at 15.50 daily arriving in Dublin at 17.20. The return flight will leave Dublin at 18.10 and arrive in Madrid at 21.40.

Fantastic video. Looks like a lot of it was shot from the top of the OTB and what is now Pier A. It appears that construction has just started on T1.

Something i'd love to see is an outdoor viewing area at DUB. It can be done safely and securely and many airports around Europe have them. If the DAA were smart they could even earn a few bob from it. Charge a nominal entry fee,say €1,and set up a small store selling aviation related merchandise and a coffee shop. Could be an easy source of non-aeronautical revenue for them.

What happened to the viewing area?

Would of loved to see the inside of the airport!

The old viewing are on top of the OTB is long since closed. These days the view wouldn't be as good. T1 would block the view to some Pier B movements and anything on Pier E. Best bet would be put a viewing area on top of T1,you'd see pretty much everything from that vantage point.

The Irish Architecture Foundation sometimes do tours as part of their Open House programme. The DAA have offices in the OTB so you could always pop in and see the lobby at least(it's as far as i've gotten anyways).

Defintiely a viewing area as you can glimpse the telescopes mounted on the railings.

Is that a B737 at 2.30? EI had them from 1969 so this might be early 1970's. The current T1 was completed in 1972.

Have read on another site that EI may be moveing a lot of there european operation back to T1 soon. Anybody else hear anything about it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,576 ✭✭✭lord lucan

Haven't heard anything myself. I imagine when the summer season commences there'll be a lot more EI ops out of Pier B in the morning, possibly up to lunchtime. With all the transatlantics along with EK arriving just after 11.00 and the morning EY flight there'll be feck all room for EI in the first few hours of the day.

Last summer it was mainly the first wave of EI flights,06.00-09.00 that got bumped to Pier B. With all the TA'S,including EI's 139 to BOS due to use USCBP,utilising Pier E space will be at a premium.

EI have no direct ops in T1 anymore,no check-in desks or staff,no baggage handling etc. Maybe someone in EI is sabre rattling to get at the DAA in the hope of a reduction in charges?!

They use T2 check-in even when the flights depart from T1.

Such a classic livery, the best IMO. Pity Iberia are getting rid of theirs .

Saw that VS4, an A346, from JFK to LHR, did a diversion to DUB, earlier this morning, due to a sick pax.

    Anyone know when he departed?
    Anyone got some pictures?

From next week(March 3rd) another historic name in aviation bites the dust. The Continental brand officially ceases to exist from then and everything will be fully switched over to the United brand. Already a few little bits and pieces around DUB(other than aircraft) that carry the 'new look' such as these:
