On my way to work this morning and I spot the unique outline of a FedEx MD11.

As it was my first morning passing that way since last Thursday. Is it a pre "Snowmaggedon" visitor or has it just arrived into town?

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s exodus to Bilbao I was curious to see what charter airlines will be around. Here are the ones I can find based on the flight numbers. Plenty of elderly airframes according to fleet details online.

    BUC863 – Bulgarian Air Charter (A320’s 26 to 31 y/o and MD82’s 25 to 32 y/o)

ZT630 – Titan (Various Boeing and Airbus fleet)

    MLT300 – Malethe-Aero of Malta (3 x 27 y/o 737’s)

    HAT3780 – Air Horizont of Zaragossa (3 x 26 Y/O 737’s)

ENT571 – Enter Air of Poland (738’s and one 734)

    V32864 – Carpetair of Romania (info varies online of current fleet – possibly 3 x F100 all 26 y/o )

    Any and all corrections welcome.

As a follow up this morning:

    BUC863 – Bulgarian Air Charter
Couldn't find it on FR24 but MD82 per AENA Arrivals at Bilbao.

    ZT630 – Titan
    Cancelled and replaced by:
    ZT9531 - 734 G-POWS (per FR24)

    MLT300 – Malethe-Aero of Malta
Showed up on FR24 but "aircraft not in FR database".
733 per AENA Arrivals at Bilbao

HAT3780 – Air Horizont of Zaragossa
    734 9H-HUE (per FR24)

ENT571 – Enter Air of Poland
    738 SP-ESC (per FR24)

    V32864 – Carpetair of Romania
    F100 YR-FZA (per FR24)

Aer Lingus A330 operated EI2750 but FR24 is not showing the reg. It departed 2hrs late.

    Any and all corrections welcome.

    Fabulous photos, thanks for sharing.

I wonder could I ask a question or two?

    1) Why is a LH Jumbo in Dublin? Translantic diversion perhaps?

    2) We now have 2 airlines flying between Reyjkavik & Dublin. I was looking at going to Iceland for a holiday this year, but found the costs prohibitive - heading for Lisbon instead. But can 2 airlines to such a small country prevail?

    3) Guess I might as well ask and satisfy my curiousity - why was the Jordanian airlkine here? According to another post it was only here for 1.75 hours

Once again, thanks for the photos, personally I loved the Jumbo one. They are becoming scarcer & scarcer nowadays. I once flew on a B747SP, are there any of them still flying?

2: They are chasing connecting traffic to the USA.

4: I believe that there are 8 B747-SP's still in operation, the Saudi Royal Fleet grounded their two a few months ago. Unfortunately getting spare parts for these aircraft has become too difficult.

Another good example of this is try booking a KLM or Lufthansa fare to only Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Sometimes there is not much difference to continue on to somewhere else.

No SPs in passenger service, mainly because of age - there are no -100s or -200s in passenger service either; three man cockpit and also the 'Special Performance' isn't special anymore. There are more suited aircraft for the long haul or short runway uses they were bought for. So while there are ones operating you are damn unlikely to get to fly one.

There is one -300 in passenger service in Iran if you had a really desperate need to fly on a 747 Classic! Or 727, or A300 as they're also the last with those.

It was so nice to be born in a different era, I have had the pleasure of flying in the 747-SP/100/200/300/400/8, as well as the 727 and A330.

Pardon my ignorance, I never knew there were different models of the 747 SP. I flew on SAA's SP's from Jo'burg to Bangkok on a few occassions. Parked up in Don Meung, it seemd like the SP was a mini sausage when beside Jumbos:-)
