By the way Ponster any thoughts on possible ploys to influence voters?
Not saying this is one exactly and definitely, but maybe for your next quiz mention that answers should not be posted until after results are out.

Just a thought. Toodles and fingers crossed for results ;)

    ANSWERS....

    1. Curry 22
    1. Chinese 15
    1. Humus 1
    1. Italian 2
    1. Jamaican Jerk 1
    1. Sushi 1

I lumped everyone who said 'curry' and 'Indian' together (except those who said Chinese curry. All I want to know now is what the hell 'Jamaican Jerk' is :)

    2. Spag Bol 20
    2. 2. Shepherd's Pie 7
    2. cottage pie 1
    2. Hamburger 11

Clear-cut winner here. I thought more people would say Lasagne though.

    3. Irish Stew 34
    3. Bacon and Cabbage 4
    3. coddal 1
    3. Irish breakfast 2

Coddal? Come on...it's the most popular answer folks :p

    4. Ham 8
    4. mushrooms 1

    Poor Supermacs !

    8. Kelloggs 39

    8. corn flakes 1
    8. Cornflakes 1

I asked for a Brand in the question and posted in the thread giving an example of what a brand name actually was. I couldn't therefore just accept 'cornflakes'.

Interestingly, Shepherd's Pie is traditionally made with minced lamb, not minced beef. What most people call Shepherd's Pie is actually Cottage Pie. I saw an episode of the F-word once where Gordon Ramsey got quite worked up about the distinction.

Ponster, are you still accepting incorrect answers even if they are popular?

Yeah I didn't write down "Shepherd's Pie" becuase it was lamb. And I didn't think many people would write down cottage pie.

So I was left deciding between spag bol and lasagne. And stupidly, I picked lasagne. :(

Damn all you non-lasagne picking people!!:mad:

Spike it really depends on the question but generally when someone gives a wrong answer they find themselves with zero points because others don't give the same answer.

For the mince question I knew it would cause too much trouble to not accept "Shepherd's Pie". The answer was technically wrong and there's a 5+ page thread in the Cooking Forum debating the matter.

Had the quiz been one where you had to give a unique answer that you think no one else would give then I'd be very strict on the marking and only accept correct answers.

    lmao :D only on boards!

It really was only curiousity, not sour grapes at coming second again or anything!

When is the infamous unique answer quiz coming online anyway?

Speaking of which, I'd can't wait for the 1st one of those unique answer quizzes.

I don't get te problem?? The question was mince meat not minced beef? No?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,912 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ponster

True, but IMHO mince meat (or minced meat) is by default minced beef unless otherwise stated. I can't imagine asking an Irish person to go and buy some minced meat and they ask if I want lamb, pork or beef? (though maybe things are different since I left?)

I agree with Ponster but to be fair I didn't reread the question before raising the issue. If I had I probably wouldn't have asked TBH.

    RTFQ syndrome!

Really surprised about the Spag Bol one. I would've thought burgers would be the most obvious answer.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,912 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ponster

Do people really bother to make burgers though? I do from time to time but I imagine that most people just buy them fresh/frozen?

I always buy the mince though. But yeah, I think we're in the minority.
