Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, I've decided now that i've got money I'm going to take up DJ'ing. I'm mainly into trance (all sorts, but specifically heavy basslines and bit of progressive) and some house type stuff - all EDM anyways :D

I've been eyeing up the Pioneer CDJ-400's - MIDI support for Traktor or whatever the choice of Digital Software is, USB support for flash drives and support for MP3 CD's. Fair enough, no MP3 DVD's but I can live without.

I'd hate to commit to a DJM-1000 with 2 CDJ-1000MK3's and see them get no use if I realise I like say Abelton, Traktor or the other digital offerings more - at least I can use the CDJ-400's with that stuff as a MIDI device :D

The mixer I've got my eye on is the Nuo 2.0 from Ecler - Initially it was the DJM-400 but I realised a lot of people said it's bedroom only and once you skip out the effects and realise they are **** the DJM-400 becomes worthless so it's better to get a really good 2ch mixer with the proper outputs (e.g. booth and record outputs along with the usuals.) It's also got FX outputs so at some stage it could be connected to a proper piece of hardware like an EFX-500 or something else.

My only experience thus far has been Traktor stuff and trying not to use the sync button to beatmatch so I can get a feel for it..

I've simply not got the money for CDJ-800's or 1000's nor do I have the cash (or need) for any other more serious mixer like the Xone stuff..

Am I way off the mark or? And is there somewhere I can go to sample this gear without feeling like a complete tool because I don't quite know what I'm playing at?

    Also - headphones? :D

I would honestly recomend not going over-the-top if you're only starting out. The Pioneer DJM1000 is a 6 channel mixer and you're only planning to buy two turntables. Maybe start off with something more manageable and if you decide later that you want something more, then you can upgrade. The Nuo 2.0 looks good, it's got everything you need (and no more.)

The usual advice is to put the bigger slice of money into the turntables and start off with a more basic mixer. It can be easier to learn how to master the arts of beatmatching and mixing on a less flashy, effects-driven mixer as all those effects can be distracting at the start.

As for headphones, I personally don't think you need anything specialist. A good pair of overheads for €30 - €40 should do the trick. Having said that I've never used the €200+ ones so I can't comment on whether or not they are better. But I find no problems with the cheaper pair.

I drove down to them this afternoon. Niall wasn't in but I got a look at the CDJ-400's and the DJM-400 mixer. Well impressed with the decks. The lack of booth/record on the DJM-400 puts me off. I asked for a price on the Ecler Nuo 2.0 and they quoted me €540 which caught me by surprise. Thomann.de sell it for 377 with free delivery you see.

No, I only throw in the MK3's and DJM-1000 because initially I thought why not..then money an issue especially since I don't want to throw money at this

It's sorta why I'm going middle of the road with the CDJ-400's. The killer for me is the MIDI. So if I don't like the hardware side of things I can go all software with a midi controller (and not have to flog them for cheap :D)

Judging by the amount of fun I'm having with traktor and a mouse the last few weeks I doubt I'm not gonna like doing this stuff :D

The Nuo 2.0 has everything I need by way of outputs and inputs, so I'm alright for that. It's very HQ stuff too and can be hooked up to an EFX-500 so for like 150 more than the cost of a DJM-400 I can have the same setup (and more). If I never graduate to effects then I have saved money ;)

Thost HDJ-1000's are getting great reviews for their sound, but their headband/linkages are letting a lot of people down.
