Hey Niamh, congrats on getting into college.

I'm in no position to comment on Mary I, where is Fastmover when you need her?!

As for colelge life, thats easy, go to college, there arent too many hours in a college week, so do them.
Thats the serious part out of the way...
Now, go to parties, come out to UL and the Lodge, enjoy yourself, make loads of friends, join clubs, am....tbh you will take what you want from college.

Primary teaching will be slightly different(in my understanding anyway) from most other college courses, because the hours are actually quite long - 25-30 hours a week. Also alot of work required for projects, etc...

As Mossin said the best thing to do is go out and enjoy yourself the rest of the time, join clubs and generally have the craic.

With Mary I, you are only a 10 minute walk from town, so you have all the pubs and clubs in town to pick from, plus the one's around like Fennessy's, Punches, Scotts, Bobby Byrnes and O'Dwyers. You can go out to UL and the Lodge niteclub as well.

Food in Mary I canteen wasn't great last time I was there, but is quite heavily subsidised - so it's a trade off I suppose! Few chippers and Subway nearby too. There is a Lidl close by, and also Tesco in the Crescent shopping centre and town. Vivo shop in Scott's pub, across the road.

There is a cinema close enough in the Crescent shopping centre, and one out near UL aswell, also bowling on the Ennis Road.

    BULBS == Boards UL Beers

They're good fun, started back when I was in 3rd year if I remember correctly.

Its where all us people from the UL forum on Boards meet up for drinks, its a great way to meet new people.

Who knows, probably doing something more productive than pissing about on boards.

    And here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=56967825&postcount=2

Why don't you sort out your own grammar before correcting my spelling mistakes? Oh yes everyone the hideous irony of our dear Brian correcting someone else when he still can't figure out the difference between your and you're (you are). I also believe bluedolphin had to correct you on this earlier on in the week.

Come back when you've something more useful to contribute, and apologies to Pete for dragging the thread OT (again).

Probably. Maybe you should do something productive instead of crapping up threads! :pac:

    Meh. Everyones human.

Cos this is a high content post? Again pot. kettle. black.

    Hmm.

No more arguing over spelling mistakes and grammar, except for the most serious transgressions. Just correct your post and move on.

So the two of ye shut up. Slap on the wrist for Rory for going off topic and poking people with sticks trying to get a reaction!

Hi girls, well done for getting into Mary I! I'm in my 3rd year of arts there, its a brilliant college! not too big so you get to know a lot of people really well and you dont get lost too often :D however it does look a bit like a convent!! We just got a new gym, and they're doing more and more work to the college to improve the facilities.

Primary teaching does need a good bit of work, but a lot of my friends are doing it and manage to get all of their work done and go out at least 2 nights a week if not more! But then again it is up to you to make whatever you want out of college

its a 20min walk into town but taxis in are cheap enough, and Limerick is a great place to be! There's a few pubs nearby, there's a restaurant called Scotts with gorgeous food, and a chinese has just opened up over it!

what accommodation are ye in? anything ye wana know about mary i, limerick etc?

Ah, the good old virgin megastore.

    Gotta love it. :P

well done on getting into mary i. i'm fourth year arts so i have no experience about the teachin' course, but from what i can tell it involves a lot of running around and panicking over nothing! :)

seriously, it's as most people say. 25-30 hours a week. work needs to be done, but it's a good course. as for college life it's grand. you're in/near town so if you want to go out you can - there's always something to do. get involved in a club/soc would be my one bit of advice. that's the easiest way to get to know people outside your course. there's plenty to choose from, be it something you do already or something you can take up, but i joined a club when I was in UL and wired in Mary I and I've regretted neither.

Depends on where your living. If your living at the summerville side of the college, it can take like 20-25min to walk to town. So you'll be getting taxi's into town on nights out (Tho, u'll be doing that anyway if you were living city side..damn heels!:D)
Food in Mary I canteen wasn't great last time I was there, but is quite heavily subsidised - so it's a trade off I suppose!
When was the last time you were there?! I'm sure it has improved. Not that I ever ate there or anything, wasn't in college long enough to be hungry!:D
There is a Lidl close by,
In my three years there, I never set food inside there...was a Tesco in Cresent regular. Bita clothes shopping there thrown in..kill two birds with one stone kinda thing!
There is a cinema close enough in the Crescent shopping centre, and one out near UL aswell, also bowling on the Ennis Road.
Yeah, cinema in Cresent is fierce handy..however you'll always meet someone you know there so keep that in mind if your ever going on secret date or anything!:pac:
    Stressed! wrote: »

Mary Dry..pffft! Sure there are girls there who will not socialise/work 24-7 but the majority are mad yokes who work hard and play hard.

Ah, the course doesn't consume all your time if you don't want it to! You can go out every night of the week if you wanted/had the energy/money.

Anything in particular you need to know about the course?! I just qualified from the course last June.

Jesus are you ever gonna give up the pink underwear thing?!

    I'm setting the record straight for the first and only time;
    - They only had a pink waistband. The were black otherwise.
    - They were from Next. Pop into the mens underwear section the next time you're in there and I'm sure you'll find plenty like them. Next is pretty mainstream imo.
    - Thirdly, they were bought for me by a lady friend of mine.
    - Fourthly, what's wrong with wanting to be a little different? I'm sure you prolly have pink underwear too > The words 'pot', 'kettle' and 'black' are floating around there somewhere. :pac:
    - Fifthly, I'm just after spending ~€100 on Mr Calvin Kleins finest from TK Maxx. For the new semester like. :P

Now, can this be the last time the pink underwear episode comes to light again?

    Touché much?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,467 ✭✭✭✭cson

I'll presume you meant 'touchy' as opposed to 'touché' seeing as touché =

    touché (French) (tōō-shā') Pronunciation Key
    - to touch.
interj. Used to acknowledge a hit in fencing or a successful criticism or an effective point in argument.

But if you mean't touchy, then yeah, you'd be right :P

Makes no difference to me, but in my experience anyone < 19 is waaaayyyy too immature.

Course, I could just be picking the wrong ones :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,619 ✭✭✭Fast_Mover

Didn't think college lads cared if a girl was 17/18....or what her personality/maturity was! Once she was hawt/easy etc..

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,467 ✭✭✭✭cson

Ah, generalisations will kill ya! :pac:

    From the old cson dating guide;

A relationship with a laydee of younger than 19 will inevitable end up going one of two ways,
    1. She will fall deeply in love with you and end up being very clingy. You will eventually end up disliking her for this and have to break her heart to save your own. This will earn you the 'bastard' tag no matter how easy you try to let her down. Her judgement of men will thus be clouded for the next x years depending on how long it takes her to mature a little bit.

    2. You'll actually start to like the girl but in the relationship turns out to be the inverse of scenario 1. She will get bored of you because she see's all her friends out pulling/scoring/riding random fella's on nights out (This is an inherently Irish thing too, you don't really see it much on the continent - they 'date' before they have sex. Of course in Ireland we do things backwards.) She'll therefore think she's missing out and break your little heart by callously leaving. Leading you to think all women are filthy.

Now it could also go the hollywood way and you'll end up marrying, kids blah blah blah. But thats prolly 1/100 cases.

Now, thats the end of my psalming for tonight :p
