Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you don't know anyone in the societies its even more reason to get involved. Its a massive opportunity to get to know new people and make friends. Depending on what society or club for that matter you join. They all do different activities from Canoeing, Computer Gaming, Rock Climbing anything you can think of its gonna be here. Most do weekly activities maybe twice a week in some cases and there is often many events held that are well worth going to. Usually about two weeks into the first semester there will be lubs and Socs days which are massive in DCU. Every c&s gets decked out to the nines and put everything up for show. You can register for anything on these days for only 4 euro for the years membership. I would def encourage getting involved, def worth spending about 20 quid just try a few different things and see what tickles your fancy! :)

Get in, get involved, and have the time of your life! (c) 2008

Seriously, college is about socailising and having fun. Some people manage this with people in their class only... but way better to know lots of different people with different interests!

    Enjoy!!

(Jealous recent graduate who'd rather be wondering about societies than career prospects!)

    What the others said...

Plus not only do you get to meet new people but you also get to try new activities. The payback from this comes in various forms too, it can be fun, it can be healthy and in many cases it can even be beneficial to your future career.

Don't think twice about it, go to Clubs & Societies Day, have a walk around, and join whatever takes your fancy, you won't regret it. :)

Join 5 clubs/socs - 4 that you have a genuine interest in, and 1 completely random one that you'd never dream of joining in a million years, just to broaden your horizons :)

Most C&S have a freshers meet n greet where seasoned members and newbies meet and get to know each other. For some it's a few glasses of wine in a meeting room, for others its a 3 day trip to Achill.

Either way, getting involved is easy - you join up, go along and meet people. Emails are sent regularly about events. There's also weekly clubs and socs emails telling everyone about all the bigger weekly events. And posters are up everywhere too.

But seriously, get involved. I don't think anyone who does ever regrets it.

Join E and S, always lookin for people to help out and you'll end up doing the most random stuff. Throwing sponge pigs at prospective students on the open day was probably one of the best! They loved it! :p

I'm sorry, but what the hell do E&S actually do? Last year the only things I found out about them were that they liked Red Bull and loud music...

Nights out, discounts for nightclubs etc. Free slab of red bull whenever you ring a certain number!

Most of the societies do nights out and nightclub discounts are pretty common too. I'm just a little confused as to the purpose of the society.
