Aircraft emergency exits

    After the terrible crash in Madrid yesterday, I was just thinking about aircraft emergency exits. Most of the fuel in aircraft is stored in tanks in the wings. Like in the Madrid crash, fire was a big factor, especially on take off. In a Boeing 737 half the emergency exits (4 out of the 8) are over the wings, and thousands of litres of aviation fuel. Thank god air accidents are few and far between.

    No, isn't it usually the big tank between the wings of a 747 that usually explodes

    That was during cruise so no amount of emergency exits would have helped in that case.
