    Gene Upshaw, the executive director of the NFL Players Association, a member of the Hall of Fame, 7 time pro bowler and 11 times all pro with the Raiders, has died of complications from Pancreatic Cancer.

    Upshaw, one of the greatest Offensive Guards in NFL history, was also the longest-tenured labor leader in American sports.

    Upshaw had recently opposed any move to reform the contracts given to first round draft picks, after controversy when it emerged that some rookie players were being paid far more than established stars. It remains to be seen now, whether the NFLPA stance on the issue will change, as many experienced players seem to favour such a change in the current situation.
