Wonder will this satisfy "You Know Who"
Trident Performance Vehicles have designed and produced a two-seater sports car that can reach over 200mph, get from 0-60mph in under 4 seconds and deliver up to 100mpg.

It’s a diesel sports car and if you’re able to obtain any kind of biodiesel, this can be used without any invalidation of warranty, adjustment to the engine or affect on performance.

Their fantastic fuel economy is achieved through technology called torque multiplication and it can be applied to all diesel cars (the popularity of which is growing year on year versus petrol cars), buses, lorries and trains. It’s available now, requires no further research and development and can make an immediate difference to the amount of emissions diesel vehicles produce. In short, Trident have the solution to what we’re told is a huge problem.

    Trident Iceni – specification

    On the road price: £75,000.00
    0-60mph: 3.7 seconds
    Top speed: 200mph+
    At constant 70mph: 68.9mpg+
    Engine: 6.6 TD V8
    Max power: 550bhp@3800rpm
    Max torque:950lb/ft@1800rpm
    Gearbox type: 8-speed automatic

With a full tank of diesel, you can expect to travel around 2000 miles without needing to fill up.

    "Torque multiplication" ? That's a gearbox, isn't it?

Nothing new. VAG TDi 130bhp owners have been claiming this for years.:p

You'd think if high performance 100mpg engine tech was so close to reality they'd be shouting it from the rooftops already?

    70 mpg, 2000 mile range => 28.5 gallon tank!

    From here ...
So what’s the secret of the Iceni R’s remarkable stats? “Torque multiplication,” says Phil Bevan, the chief designer. “Diesels operate more efficiently within the right rev range and fewer revolutions mean less friction. So a 2.5-litre diesel engine hammering down the M4 at 4,200rpm is not very efficient when with modification it could be doing it at 1,000rpm. Diesel engines are torque rich, but brake-horse power poor.”
To start with, Trident modifies the General Motors diesel so that it will be able to take maximum revs all day long when required. At the back of the Iceni is an eight-speed automatic gearbox designed by Bevan.

“We’re using the cogs in the gearbox in a different way,” he says. “The gear-change severity is based on a cruise mode which means there are seamless changes. When we race there are manual paddle shifts, but on a day-to-day basis that would be tiring so it’s better to be fully automatic.”

... so this amazing "torque multiplier" is just a gearbox  after all.

Humm.... a 6.6L GM truck engine in a sports car.

I love diesels, but methinks something is wrong.

I agree ... they do come across as a bit like the Steorn of the car world.

A big fat truck engine, hammering out sacks of torque at low revs and an eight speed auto box to keep it in the maximum torque band?

Tempting idea ...but sporty? That's a speed range of 25 mph before the next higher or lower gear kicks in ...kinda like driving a truck, just a slightly faster one :D

looks like a TVR... If I was looking for performance and something environmentally friendly I'd rather a Tesla Roadster.

Stainless steel chassis, plastic body, big diesel kept at constant revs all its life..................you may never need a new car!!
