Why not rename "Consumer Electronics" to Electrical & Electronic
and move the "Electrical" and "Home Appliances" in Rec |Home & Garden to it?

And Rename "Hobby Radio" to "Hobby Radio & Electronics"

    Much more Logical

You can vote, but of course the management need not be influenced one way or the other.

Should Electrical & Home Appliances move to Tech? 24 votes

I agree with watty. I went looking for the elec forum a while back in tech and couldnt find it. Didnt expect to find it in Home & Garden.

Watty, every time I see a thread started by you I think I've started it and worry that I've been on a drunken thread starting rampage.

This one really confused me for a second or two!

Good idea but I think CuLT said in a similar discussion that there are some issues moving forums to other main categories.

I believe Eastenders had an 'Irons 101' class there a couple of years ago...

    Ladies Lounge?

Lots of Real Men need fridges, freezers, dish-washing machines, Beer dispensers, wine coolers, coffee makers (filter or expresso, real men don't drink latte or cappuccino), Smoothie blenders, juice squeezers, electric tin openers (cat/dog paw operated?), Kettles, grills, Microwaves, pannini maker, popcorn maker, sandwich maker, chocolate fountain, vacuum cleaner robot, tumble dryer, trouser press, hair dryer, hob, oven and ice maker.

If you look at electrical forum posts it's very techy, not home & Garden at all:
    • Programmable Logic Controller
    • Advanced Wiring
    • Shop electricity consumption
    • Any risks of radiation from mains wiring

Home Appliances should stay where it is - some of the posters it attacts would be scared off if you called it a Tech subject. Posts for not-very-technical suggestions of Bosch -v- Brand X are facilitated (Not all queries are/will be technical.)

Electrical - I can see where you're coming from, but it fits where it is alongside DIY, etc.
Maybe an Electrical Engineering forum or something under Tech (I'll let you work out where)

Meh. There's always overlap. The current organisation seems to be working ok. I say leave it as it is.

Good point on the Home Appliances. But same point you make could be used to argue that Gadgets and Media Players should be under Home& Garden too.

What about adding a pair of LINKS under Tech | Consumer Electronics to Electrical and Home Appliances?

I'm not casting any aspersions on your cmodship Yer honour, Grand Ship ye keep Karoma.

meh, i see nothing wrong with the way it is though... but i do admit, your post makes sense...

and if karoma can become a cmod, then anything is possible. :p

Im not hijacking this thread but it is a bit funny when you see "Facial hair and Hats" in the same category as Construction & Planning or indeed home appliances for that matter.

I think a couple of the categories would need to be rejigged a bit and this was mentioned in another thread recently but I suppose I as guilty as everyone else for not coming up with positive proposals.

Not all appliances are electrical: Gas cookers for starters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    I'd forgotten about non-electric appliances...
    Hand operated Mincers
    Push sweepers
    Gas Hobs (I have one).

    Maybe Electric Appliances?

There are fridges that are gadgets and vice versa:
