You'll get a bag of crap and so will begin the annual Boards.ie, boffer related, festive bitter recriminations, gnashing of teeth and vowing never to do it again.

Ahh sher it wouldn't be Christmas on bargain alerts without it.:D

Read posts from this time last year. The sack of crap was exactly as it said on the tin. :)

Well as a Boffer Virgin I'm prepared to take the plunge once and see what I get, but it looks like it IS a blood iBood Hunt setup for the next while. Will give it 15 minutes and then just head for bed...

Nope, free postage for twitter followers on the pen drive

The kite is awful, I'll be shocked if they shift them!

Teddy bear phone charms? Finger kites?

    Weird stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 488 ✭✭soc

Bit pathetic that you constantly get 'couldn't connect' errors!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭zuroph

How did you manage to get free P & P?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭Samba

Was up until 1.30 a.m and managed to bag a free Kyle fridge magnet :D

How lame, never again will I lose a moments sleep over boffer, I do have the Box of crap on the way, didn't have the patience to wait for the SOC.

I'm sure it's all crap anyway.

Free delivery was on offer for those following on Twitter.#

It's a great site, if you really need to buy something you really don't need

Once in a blue moon something good comes up and it's just not worth keeping the finger on the pulse imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

got a pen drive, a fridge magnet, the SOC and two other things I can't remember for free :D

Now to wait and see if they turn up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭zuroph

The SOC, I can't get my head around how they can send it out for free.. Its really going to be awful right?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

definitely, a ton of finger kites and phone charms I'd wager

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 488 ✭✭soc

I'm definitely curious as to what the SOC will have considering how bad alot of the 'free' items were! We'll have to do comparisons on what we all got :)

Got my BOC, all the breakables were true to their name and broken in transit.

    1. Broken House of Frasier vase with £15 price tag
    2. Matching broken House of Frasier vase with a £15 price tag.
    3. Terracotta blue wine jug with £20 tag - damaged in transit
    4. Folding fake leather handbag/case thingy
    5. Some phone cable wire
    6. A plastic dart - wtf?
    7. One wasted AA Battery - wtf?
    8. Skype Keyboard CD driver that's readily available online.
    9. Thick cloth padded clothes hangers with £15
    10. Towel Hanger

Crying shame about the wine jug as it's actually quite nice.

I assume boffer won't do anything for me on items broken in transit considering it's the BOC?

I think you should contact them and try anyway. I'd say your statutory rights still apply and you should be entitled to expect that all goods be fit for purpose and of merchantible quality. Otherwise they could be wrapping up all their broken crockery and sending it in the post claiming it was damaged in transit and getting away with it.

No, I'd say they will. I've had a number of things arrive broken (harddrives) and lost (picture frames) from Boffer. Just because it's light-heartedly called a 'Bag of Crap' doesn't mean they can send you smashed up rubbish. That would be a liberty (can would not be considered 'acting in good faith')

Boffer are decent in that way and seem to understand consumer law.

A quick guide to what to do:

Raise a ticket with them. Tell them:
    1) you want to return the items under Sale of Goods Act/Distance Selling Regulations as they were broken/are faulty and
    2) ask them where to return the items to in order to get your refund or replacement goods (it's their choice whether to refund you or replace the goods)

They'll get back to you either:
    1) looking for a picture of the broken items or
    2) asking you to send them back.

If it's 2) then package all the stuff, take it down to the local post office and ask the guy behind the counter to tell you how much it will be to return the parcel to the UK
    1) registered post
    2) unregistered post.

Get back on to Boffer, give them the two quotes and ask which they want you to use and how they will refund you the cost of this postage(i.e. by cheque, by chargeback to credit card etc...).

They may press ahead with asking you to return the stuff or, if they are in a nice mood, they could just tell you to leave it and send you more random crap or just refund you.

Okay, sounds like a bit of an ordeal depending how much you spent. You're on rock solid ground regarding your rights (UK legi is virtually identical to Irish legi in this area and provides for exactly this sort of thing).

As I said, I've had to do this a number of times with Boffer.

Aside from your items being broken... did you only get 10 items? I thought it was supposed to be something like 18 items?

The SOC was free, I got the "Feckless Crap"/BOC and paid 2.99 plus pp.

A minimum of three items, which I actually overlooked at the time  I assumed it was 18 too and almost complained about that too until I re-read the terms. Suppose I did well on quantity.

Raised a casual ticket with them 48 hours ago which I haven't heard back, I think it's time to try the psicic approach - great advice thanks for the post - it should probably be stickied somewhere!

Oh just to mention, can probably avoid the post office trip - www.anpost.ie have their rates listed there - be sure to double check dimension restrictions on certain services.

Well my SOC arrived this morning. Received:
    1. Business card holder
    2. Paper clip dispenser
    3. 'Me to You' phone case
    4. Bart Simpson squeezie toy
    5. iPhone case (unfortunately has England on it)
    6. iPod Nano holder
    7. Mini DVD Camcorder Laser Lens Cleaner
    8. Gender Changer Connection
    9. South Park magnet
    10. Kids Digital Watch
    11. Pension Card holder
    12. Lotto ticket holder
    13. Cable Clips
    14. Purse/Key Chain x 2
    15. 'The Annoying Thing' electronic game
    16. Disney Princess pen
    17. 'Me to You' phone charm
    18. Interlink Bag

Sure, alot of crap - but that's expected given it's a SOC!
Plus, it didn't cost me a penny to buy or in P&P, so I'm happy

I'll take it with me to relatives house this Christmas and let the kiddies take what they want. Sure if any of the adults rellies want some of the stuff - they can take it too.

I actually quite liked the look of Harry's Geek Gadget Box today on Boffer and was about to make my first purchase there, but then I saw them adding a £ 7.00:eek: "Non UK Mainland Surcharge" on top of the purchase price plus the £ 2.99 delivery and very quickly lost interest
