Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has held off the challenge of the Village People, Elton John and Paul O'Grady to scoop a prestigious 'Gay Icon' award.
The Portuguese winger topped an online poll of 3,000 gay men on the 'gaygolddiggers' website to bag the prize and force Aussie songstress Kylie Minogue into second place.
Ronaldo, currently out of action after undergoing ankle surgery, was named PFA Footballer of the year last season after his 42 goals helped United to a Premiership and Champions League double.


spokesman for 'gaygolddiggers' said, 'Ronaldo's ripped body, slicked-back hair, shiny white teeth and jewellery swung the votes his way.
'He looks like any gay man or woman's dream.
'What with being Footballer of the Year, scoring 42 goals last season and former girlfriends saying he is talented off the pitch, he seems to have everything going for him.'
The poll, however, proved disappointing for another footballing icon, David Beckham, who will look to improve on a disappointing seventh place next time out.
