Name is Nigel. Originally from Bristol but moved here 3 years ago (after working here for a few years - I know Dublin and Bristol airports inside out).
Cool, someone else from Brizzle. Been here over tens year now myself but head back for some proper cider and to see the Wurzles whenever possible. :D

I've only relatively recently got myself a "proper" camera and still trying to figure it all out, but have always been taking loads of snapshots with other little digital cameras for years whenever the opportunity arises.

I'm the guy on the bottom in the attractive red and blue outfit, but the guy taking the picture had the same model of camera as mine attached to his helmet, a 400D.

    Hi,
I'm Rob, 37 from Dublin. Civil servant, father of two and husband of one :)

Got my first digital camera in 2001 (Fuji 1300, 1.3mp) and have been hooked ever since. I currently have the Fuji S9000 but I'd really like an Oly E520. I love street photography but unfortunately am not particularly good at it. My software of choice is GIMP and Linux. Haven't yet made it to a meet yet, just never seem to have the time.

I'm the one on the right =)

I'm a professional landscape photographer selling prints and offering private and group digital photography workshops.

Been shooting professionally since 2005 and had been an enthusiastic amateur for many years before that. I use a mix of gear, but primarily Canon DSLRs. I have a 5D, a 30D which has been converted to infra-red use and a 400D as a backup. Main lenses are the Canon 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8 IS and the Sigma 12-24. I've been known to shoot 4x5 large format and 6x17 as well.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Jeez, I can't believe I didn't notice this sticky til now.

Well howdy y'all, I haven't been taking photos for very long, so I won't give you all a spiel about what I specialise in 'cause I'm not that far along the photography road yet.

About a year ago I was lucky enough to inherit a D70, which got me started taking a few shots. I'd actually love to get a job which involved a bit of photography, so hopefully I'll be able to incorporate it into my life.

I find these forums extremely useful for criticism and advice, so thanks to everyone for helping me get started behind the lens.

    the names Stephen,

Started of with disposable cameras as a youngfella, eventually my brother got a Canon eos 300, which was my first venture into the slr camera. I needed it for a plc course 5 years ago now. Went to college but it took up all my time and money.. so the camera was shelved, as film processing is expensive in the long run.

Got me a Canon 400D last year, and also a "nifty 50" but i have only really started using is now that i have enough free time to do so.

I like taking pictures of lights. and double exposures

Hopfully i have it set to public view

Really enjoyed reading this thread, good to hear about all the new people. Well, new to me at least. I was here, and then I was gone, and now I'm back! Real life got in the way somewhere inbetween,

For those who don't know me - I'm Katie. Originally from Kerry, but currently based in Cork. I love all things tech and music related - that's probably why all these years later im still in college studying tech and music related things. Well Im doing a PhD in voice analysis (computer science/music based stuff). When im not coding or reading Im usually singing or playing some home-made instrument.

I have a 40D picking up a lot of dust in my room. I feel increasingly inclined to clear the dust and start using the camera again!

My flickr has turned into a selection of random crap but some of the older attempts at photographs are here or here.

This is me, or this if you are a Flickr friend hehe!

New to this forum so I'll introduce myself - Eoin, 28, I.T. Consultant, Father of soon-to-be the most photographed 7 week old girl in Ireland.

Started out with my mum's old instamatic 128 at the age of 8/9 before getting my first point and click Olympus Trip at about 12, moved to digital with a Kodak C743 which was the result of visiting a coffee shop before going to the electronics store in Amsterdam and a thorough disappointment in terms of shutter speeds, time-to-shoot, build and image quality. Just ordered a Canon 450D with the kit 18-55 IS and a 55-250 IS which I hope to receive on Monday.

Main areas of interest with regard to photography are portraiture & night photography of both rural and urban landscapes (As Dragan will tell you, when I get into something I go straight in at the deepend!).

I started out with a nikon slr, and have since moved to a D70, Sony Alpha 100, Soon to be a Sony alpha 700:). If i wasnt so lazy i would probably be much better at the technical side of photography.

    Hi I'm Aaron,
I've started posting here more frequently lately so thought I better introduce myself. I got into photography through taking pictures at concerts and it's developed into a great hobby for me.
Had used an Olympus C-700 for years before I got my first DSLR in the form of Canon's EOS 400d at the end of 2006, also use a more compact Canon SX100 when it's not convenient to carry the bigger camera.
I've taken night courses in photographic theory and Photoshop and am currently studying for a Diploma in photography from home.

I love Flickr so feel free to add me as a contact.

Hi, I'm Lynn. I'm 36 and I'm an illustrator and 3d modeller mainly. I decided to get a 400D a couple of years ago and, armed with 13 years of photoshop experience, I thought I'd take a few photos of people's children and make them look beautiful with PS. The photos that is, not the children.
I'm now mainly taking family portraits, although I rely on PS less now that I'm armed with better camera equipment.

My name is Helen and I'm 42. Married and have one daughter who I love to photograph. My DSLR is an Olympus E400 but this is gathering dust at the minute as Santa brought me an early pressie of a Canon G10 which I absolutely love and will be bringing everywhere with me.

I really started with photography just over 12 months ago and am a member of the Limerick Camera Club (they even made me Treasurer) I have learnt so much from the other members and the competitions are great as the challanges make you look at things differently and be more creative with composition. I use Photoshop Elements 7 and sometimes Picasa 3. I like shooting people and street photography and a little landscape.

I bought the camera primarily to take pictures for my maritime website but having seen some of the pictures on this great froum and met some of the nice people I have decided to take it up as a hobby.

I've been lurking around here for the last while and have been getting up the nerve to post some pics. I'm Joanne, a 30 year Corkwoman living in Dublin for the last 2.5 years. I work as a management consultant and have just returned from living in Brussels for 6 months.

I always like taking photos but never with anything serious. So this year, I took some of my hard earned cash and invested in a Nikon D40. I'm loving it so far, and am excited by some of the photos that I've taken. Can't wait to learn more and get better.

This is one of my favourites so far. It was taken on a beautiful summer's night in Bruges this year.

That's a lovely photo. Do you have a pixie or flickr account with more of your photos?

Here's my Flickr photostream. I've only got a few up there as I'm trying to only put up what I consider decent. Got to work through the backlog and pick out some more.

I only had the D40 a short while when I took that Bruges photo. It was the first decent one I took and gave me inspiration to keep trying for more.

I should really throw myself down here:

I'm Andy from Dublin, Student studying Broadcasting (Inc. Photography), have always had an interest in photography, but I never invested in it, untill today, ordered my Nikon D40, nothing big but a start, looking forward to learning a lot more than what I already know (which isn't much), I have been lurking around here for a long time now, and havn't really posted. I am in the yearbook too. I am sort of starting off with a lot of nature stuff, but I would like to go into a bit of sports photography, but my one love would have to be nature shots. Very excited about getting into this a lot more with the new camera, and I look forward to talking to a few of you in the future.

I attached a pic, I'm obviously the lad on the right.

wow can't believe i've never posted in this thread.

    ok here goes:

    name: Neil.
    age: 22
occupation: Student of DIT doing computer science.
other hobbies: computers/music/guitar/songwriting/collecting cd and vinyl/anime/computer games etc.

how did i become interested in photography:
have a friend who was interested and had a D70, used to go on shoots with him and just stand there. i got bored and decided to buy a camera of my own.

    favourite type of photography:
due to me having to put in long hours in my course and the vitalness of me having sleep i rarely get to photograph anything but night scenes at the moment.

    my future with photography:
i'm always going to see photography as a hobby, because for me, if i ever had to do it full time i would grow to hate it over time and that's something i wish will never happen. once i finish up in college i'm hoping to travel the states so the camera will come with me and hopefully i'll get a few good snaps out of that.

where do I start..... Paddy here, 29yrs old, originally from Cork but been in Dublin for 4yrs now - haven't posted any pics on boards yet - but theres always a first time - have been in the shadows reading the threads for a while now - recently made a couple of posts, have met a couple of Boardsies (before I knew they were on boards) .... have a nasty habit of spending my money on camera gear - had everything robbed 3yrs ago - so everything I own now has been bought in the last 3yrs.

    Gear I own:
    Cameras
    Canon Eos-3 (Film Camera), 40D , 1Dmk2
    Lenses
    Canon 16-35mm f2.8, 17-35mm f2.8, 28-135mm IS f3.5-5.6, 50mm f1.8 (2), 85mm f1.2, 100mm f2.8 Macro, 100mm f2.8 USM Macro, 135mm f2, 70-200mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8 IS, 300mm f4 IS, 300mm f2.8 , 400mm f2.8, 600mm f4 IS , MP-E65 (Manual focus macro lens)
    Sigma 17-70mm f2.8
    Flashes
    Canon 540EZ flash, 550ex flash (4), 580ex flash , 580 mk2 flash (2) , Mt-e3 Ringlite flash, Mp-ex24 Ringlite flash , Mt-14 Ringlite Flash
    Other Stuff
    Canon 1.4X extender, 2x extender,Canon ST-E2 Transmitter

There might be a couple of other bits and pieces.

How did I get into photography ? long story short was studying Chemistry in college and told the students union that I'd do the pics (College Magazine) if they paid for printing.... deal done, after that some local and national papers started asking me to do some bits and pieces....from there started working at chemistry and eventually gave up and started working for agencies in Cork and then in Dublin - remember my gran (RIP) giving me a 110camera when I was 12....been taking pics since then.

Fav thing to photo has to be sports, concerts and news .... ideally want to be paid by a newspaper to goto the world cup in Africa 2010.

I'm Sean, 19 years old from Donegal, originally London. I'm doing a degree in computing at the minute.

First camera I got using much was a terirble fujifilm 1.3mp camera that came with a computer in 2000ish. Later on, in about 2004-5, I won a Canon Somethingorother 3.2mp camera, in a photography competition no less.

My first SLR was and is a Nikon D40, only just got it at Christmas thanks to some posters on here. So far I've taken about 400 photos, I think 3 of them were ok-ish. Need to work on my PP a lot more, only ever used photoshop for web design stuff before now.

I've got a gorillapod and a shutter remote in the post, so I'm hoping to start making some stop motion movies with plasticine, always loved doing that when I was younger.

I mainly like taking photos of landscapes, I love the feeling of insignificance I get when looking at an epic scene.

I think a macro lens will be my next investment, or one of them dodgey ebay macro attachments.

Disclaimer: I may have been drinking before posting.

Hi, Ive been posting here for a while on and off. Just got my d40 for Christmas , so I'm still getting to grips with it.

Always liked photography but never got interested enough to buy anything more than a digital camera and it usually only came out at holidays.

I hope you all can continue giving great advice to those just starting out.

    Here's one of my first.

Well, I might just as well introduce myself as well then!

Sarah's the name, a newly immigrant into recession Ireland, moved here from belgium for the good reason of the boyfriend being Irish... We live in Drogheda now, godless county Louth as our Dublin friends refer to it..

25 years of age, nowhere near a good photographer, rather a hobby then anything else... Love macro's, natureshots and anything with a contrast lightwise (inspiration would be to "reproduce" the atmosphere on the 17th century Clair Obsure painting).

Apart from photography, keen interest in travel (always wanted to be a traveljournalist, never had the energy to get into it unfortunalty), architecture and arts in general... And I love cooking :-)

    So that's it for me!

    Hi there,

Name is Merkuree, born in Dublin, relocated to the US 15 years ago, currently live in San Francisco, CA. Valley Tech Geek by day and photographer/global citizen/traveller when I am not otherwise working.

First 'real' camera was a Cosina in the late 80's. Used to process and print B/W but my working life got in the way of all hobbies.

Returned to the hobby about 3 years ago. I shoot with Nikon D200 and various Nikkor and Sigma lenses. I process stuff through a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 on a Macbook Pro.

That being said, the photographs which I admire most and seek to emulate are those simple shots where great composition and traditional photographic technique are evident.

I wish I had time for traditional processing. I am humbled by those photographers who have mastered film and the traditional craft.

One of the aspects which fascinates me about photography is that you do actually improve your skills over time and that feedback/observation from others makes you a better photographer.

I´m an occupational therapist but I also love art and more recently photography.

I have an Fujifilm s5800 and probably the best thing about this camera is the 10X zoom and the super macro lens. It´s really gotten me into photography and Im considering getting a nikon D60 whenever iv saved up enough to get some decent lens to go with it. Iv also just got a canon isux as its handier for fitting in my handbag then the s5800. Here´s my flicker http://www.flickr.com/photos/23333451@N07/

This is my first post here, but I've been hovering around this forum for the last couple of weeks looking at some of the stuff you guys have produced (wow by the way ).

I'm a complete beginner. As a child I was obsessed with my parents' camera and every single film they developed contained several shots of the walls/floor/ceiling taken on my early morning photography expeditions. As the years progressed, this gradually evolved into a collection of holiday and party snaps galore. I'm now 22 and have decided to try to upskill somewhat. Being on a student's budget ruled out buying a DSLR, so I went for a Canon Powershot G9 instead, which arrived on Monday. I took it with me to London over the last two days, and I've posted some of the results in this thread, with the rest on my newly-created Flickr page.

As you can see from the time I posted this I've a bit of a nocturnal streak, so I'll probably be attempting plenty of night photography. Hopefully I'll be able to learn something about it (and everything else) from you knowledgeable people! :)

    Hallooo,

I used to post here a bit but haven't in aaaaaaaaaaaaaages. Been having a mooch through in the last few days and decided to say hello.
My name is Paula, I'm 24 & from Dublin. I just got back from a year in New Zealand and am sitting around on my bum since. Been spending my days on the interweb to keep myself occupied...

I got into photography about 4 or 5 years ago and its just a hobby that I really enjoy. I have a canon eos 350d at the moment that I've had a for a few years, but now have my eye on the 5D & some new lenses (when I get some money together!).
My favourite lens is my beloved 50mm f1.8 which has been through ALOT at this stage and the autofocus is gone a bit funny....

The link to my flickr is in my sig & there's probably a picture of me in there somewhere :)

But anyway, hello to everyone again!
