Havent been out and about in The Gar in a while but the Greyhounds can be a good night out. Danny Byrnes pub was also lively enough. As was Canton Caseys
If your into gigs then check out The Stables www.stableslive.com

Oscars is very popular - OK priced too. For better food / more money try Ilia Tapas (see separate thread on this). Sagaar is a good Indian restaurant, for Chinese the Amber Court is good. See further down the other threads for other comments on restaurants...

Yeah all the restaurants mentioned are well respected.

As for drinks hit both Danny Byrnes and Caffreys. Both have large outdoor beer gardens that are very impressive. Caffreys even has a full bar built outside in their's. Strong possibility of music being played at both but not certain as I haven't been out back home for a couple of months. I'd recommend Danny's strongly though seeing as it's just the two of you as inside it's a lot cozier and more intimate... candles and nice comfy seats/cushions etc. I'd avoid the stables/yukon like a plague unless there is a significantly respected group or artist that you really want to see playing. The fact that there is regulars drinking cans of bud there instead of draft would reinforce that point in my mind

Nightclubs: I'd personally go to the fence afterwards so as to avoid all the 17/18 yr olds in mojos. Not to mention the fact it'd be like a cattle mart on Saturdays. As for spin, avoid and the greville is mediocre except for it's beer garden.

As far as B+B's etc. I don't have much knowledge as I've never used them obviously. Try for a central location so you won't have to pay for taxi's would be my advice. That said like anywhere in Ireland these days you'll have no problem picking up a cab as the supply is completely saturating the market.

Hotels I'd try looking here www.annebrook.ie/ or http://www.thenewburyhotel.com/ or http://www.grevillearmshotel.ie/ as this is probably your best bets location wise, walking distance to everything.

Oh and if you manage to get rid of the bird for the night :p and fancy a cash game there's more than likely a table of 1/3nl or 55/nl going from midnight til close in the crane club casino. It's best described as loose and gambly. If you want I can pm you the poker managers number to ring in advance. It's the door to the left of the of specsavers btw which is just a few doors down from McDonalds

Enjoy your night out and watch out for those petrol bombs!!!

Actually on B+B's the Wry Mill 044-9349544 or Kerrigans 044-9340250 are nicely located in the centre of town too.

Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY in the WRY MILL!

It's filty! I can recomend the new rooms in the newbury hotel, very nice reasonable value!

    Half way to america????

Anyway Oscars is a top spot, danny byrnes is a good place to go for a few drinks...although you won't be able to talk cause the music is very loud, you could also try canton casey's on the square, its a great little pub. DO NOT go near the wry mill, its an awful kip. there are loads of decent b&b's around the place, just not there!

Oscars is a good place to get a meal. Most of the pubs are good. Danny Byrns is a good spot for live music. If you are going clubbing the final fence is a good spot. i not familar with the b and b's but the newbury hotel next the train station gives good value for rooms.

Pubs:- As previously mentioned above Danny Brynes & Caffreys are the main spots to go for the 20-20s age group. Both provide good atmosphere and large smoking areas with heaters, seats an outdoor bar too which will save the legs!! Danny Brynes slightly better with the quirkyness to the pub and the staff too!

Food:- If your on a budget a good chinese or italian would be ideal. I'd recommend pasta bella or amber court all in town, Mr.Wong which is attached to the Mullingar Park Hotel is also a very nice restaurant with good quality food on a fairly reasonable priced menu. On a more expensive scale, Ilia tapas would be ideally the best in my own opinion as i love the food they offer, its a modern contemporary restaurant that serves excellent food but at a price! Oscars is also very nice, well established restaurant in town thats popular with both locals and visitors. Expect variety, with pizzas, chicken, steaks, fish etc! Menu is reasonable enough! Again, i'd say with Ilia Tapas and Oscars, booking would probably be necessary at the weekends especially!

B&B wise, theres a few in town like kerrigans and hilltop B&B. But a hotel would be the right job id say, good few choices between the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar Park Hotel, Bloomfield House Hotel and then the Greville Arms in the centre of town. Out ot them all id recomment the first 2!!

Just an update on the Wry Mill - went there today to book a room for a relo coming over soon, the place is excellent! :D

The rooms are immaculate, newly refurbished and the staff are very friendly. I was qouted €40 B&B per night for a single person, which I thought was very good value considering there are some really grotty places charging €50+ for the same thing.

(for the record, I don't work there and I am not related to anyone connected to the place!)

Just thought I'd post an update for anyone interested.
