Start of financial year?

Probably a basic question i know but when does our financial year start? I thought it has changed from April to Dec 31st is that correct?

The Irish Tax Year is to the 31st of December

Financial year is the date accounts are prepared to, which is determined by the company involved and does not have to correspond to the Tax Year
