would nearly like to see something a bit mad like keane or kuyt off, whichever stays goes right, agger on in centre mid and gerrard up behind torres. Can see gerrard is dying to get into the game, but he's starting his powerful runs from inside his own half, simply can't surge his way that far forward.

Listening to Dean Saunders on fivelive - he just mentioned the issue of Kuyt and Babel
coming inside and so bringing thier defenders with them, which kills space for Torres and Keane. El Zhar on for Kuyt?

I cannot believe that Kuyt is still on the pitch. I'd have rathered to put Keane outside than leave Kuyt in the pitch.

    Liverpool are living dangerously.

Gerrard to score somewhere between the 85th and 95th minute ;)

In fairness I have to say SL have been very tidy. Theyve been worth this (so far) draw. Credit where credit is due.

Would like to see Liege win on penos. Might wake Liverpool up to the fact that the season begins in August not January.

Unfortunately yes. If their was something I could change about football it is that. Away goals should be abolished in extra time imo.
But one team gets to play in front of their home crowd for an extra 30 minutes.

Either get rid of the away rules entirely or leave it as it is imo.

    Penalties beckon methinks

How was Kuyt left on over Keane? Curious

In fairness SL didnt threaten as much in the second half.

why didn't Rafa register Mascherano? Surely there was room for him in a squad of 25. He'd make everything better.

have a feeling kuyt will score now that he's more central up top..

If Rafa Benitez doesn't go out and buy two top quality wingers it will be a waste of 19 million on Keane.

Sheesh, just checking tonight results now and i saw Liverpool went to ET,what the hell is going on with them?

Just crossed my mind but people often refer to the Championship play-off as "the most valuable game in football". Surely tho Liverpool would potentially lose a greater amount if they do not qualify for the CL?

Nope, it's about 25million or something for Champions League. Championship Promotion is worth up to 40 million. AFAIK.

Id say every neutral in the land wants Liege to win now after that little fiasco. Very unsporting by Liverpool.

action in the dug out is better than the football ..

Standard put the ball out of play (for an injury I think), Liverpool never gave them back possession. I know I know, its not in the rules. But most teams do it out of respect. Given the circumstances however, I can see why they didnt.

Edit: Liege beginning to timewaste a bit now - its back to a level playing field with the neutrals :D

Where is this famous "caldron of noise" and "greatest atmosphere in football" that is Anfield tonight? But for the Belgians, you couldn't hear a pin drop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

You do it when giving the ball back doesn't really matter or when you can afford to do so. Liverpool are playing a dogarse in big money game and aren't good enough to do anything with the ball so the maxim doesn not apply.

I remember once Kilbane not giving the ball back to Switzerland in a crunch Euro2004 qualifier. I thought to myself "if a gent like he won't give back the ball then all the football heroes truly are dead"

I then cried a single tear before raising my clenched fist and cursing the gods that made us all.

Remember a few years ago in an FA Cup match, Arsenal gave the ball back but I think it was kanu pressurised the defender and Arsenal scored, cue huge uproar, Arsenal offered to replay the match which they did.

as much as anything i think it was just a mistake by El Zhar, dont think he realised what had happened before and just started bombing up the line. After he released it was too dangerous a situation to pass up really. Id say its something the pool players will be taking the piss out of him afterwards for (so long as pool win!)

Absolute edge of the seat stuff now...terrified!

How many players did El Zhar reckon he was going to be able to run through there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭redzerdrog

    stonewall peno!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

This is fairly surreal. Quite crowd and no last 10 min onslaught of all 10 outfiled players camped in opposition box that usually goes on in Europe.

It's almost as if no one cares.
