tyre recommendation

I recently bought a Diamondback sorento hardtail bike which is fantastic. I use it for work and weekend cycles. The tyres are a bit chunky so want to change to slicker type tyres... can you recommend a resonably priced tyre which will give me both speed and grip ??

Looking to do the same myself with one of my old hardtails.

Can't recommend a tyre as currently I use either 700 x 23 on the road bike or else full mtb tyres on my hardtails. I was looking at these as a low resistance / good cornering option though. Maybe someone else can comment and point us both in the right direction.

Bit heavy but haven't got a puncture yet, run fast and quiet. Corners great on tarmac but very messy on any bit of mud.

If you want to increase speed and grip on the roads, the advice I got here was to use completely slick tyres for both wet and dry conditions - planning on getting a pair of Continental Ultra Gatorskins myself. These would be rubbish on loose surfaces, though, so maybe use the slicks to commute during the week and then put on the knobblies at the weekend if you're going offroad.

For years i've had a pair of specialized nimbus tyres on a hack mtb. i think the name might have changed to armadillo's now but they don't puncture, even on dublin citys broken glass cycle lanes. decent grip too.
