Yes. The UK channels are the Community channels here for mass etc. The European channels here are allowed FM, AM or SSB (USB/LSB). You'd want a model with FM and SSB. Models for UK market tend to be FM only.

I'd not buy either of those.

i used to be on the cb a lot a few years ago like others around dublin, i was going through my shead a few weeks ago and came across my old cb i had, i still had a mobile aeril so i put it together for the crack to see if anyone was on it, have a super cheeta 380 odd channels am\fm and sidebands and the alpha channels, got it up and running and found no one on apart from skip from other countrys didnt bother do any dx ing but the cb is dead around dublin if there is anybody outthere using cb's around dublin little or none, bring back the good old days of free talking, what crack we had on the air waves. il still check up on it once in a while, but i know there'll no one on the other end. so the answser i think to your question is NO there is little or no people on the cb, mobile phone killed the raido star

I used to be on the CB a lot as kid but haven't touched it in years. I recently bought a Hy Gain V off ebay, it has 120 channels and FM/AM/LSB/USB bands, is this a good unit ?

I need to get a decent base aerial for it... any ideas where I can source one in Ireland ?

    That should be OK,

though RG58/U or Mini8 would do. Unless it is a long run (> 50m).

    Mini8 is somewhere between RG213 and RG58.

RG213 is quite fat and awkward. Definately needed for VHF (144MHz).

UHF (430MHz) really wants LM400 for longer runs.

RG213 is good for Discones used complete range of 25MHz to 1300MHz.

    Hi all.
Bebo or similar online networking sites are probably best option to revive CB to above and beyond wat it once was.
We need to link people operating on CB in the same areas and information must be gathered on usage patterns.
check out - http://CBradios.bebo.com or my regional page - http://CBKillarney.bebo.com

Those of you operating in munster in particular can link on as i am trying to possibly organise nights where we can get large numbers operating.
