    God, I LOVE this show...

Only in Sons of Anarchy do we see a man being brutally raped as part of a complicated psychological and physical torture scheme and then see a man being drowned in a bathtub full of piss and not have either of those moments be the most shocking moment in the episode.

Actually, it wasn't his SMG. It belongs to a member of Nero's gang (who seems to be living with the mother of the boy), and they were armed by SAMCRO at the end of last season. Sh*t's going to hit the fan.

And Tara bought herself some more jail time. ;)

Was there somebody in the car with Tara's lawyer when she was on the phone to Jax. She kept looking back as if somebody was there (maybe she's just a crap actor who got distracted by the camera:P)

No, she was alone in the car. She just appeared to be visibly upset and shaken after Gemma threatening her.

I think she was class as Calamity Jane in Deadwood.

Just finished watching it....a determined start to the season.

Spent the whole ep wondering about the blonde kid as I knew something was going to happen but was not expecting what happened until just before it did. I wont say anymore until the rest of you good folks have caught up as don't want to spoil it.

"I suggest you tell zero dark ****head to put down that piece" Ha Ha

Great to have this show back!!

Okay great to see it back but wow that was.... dark.
You spend the whole episode wondering whats up with the blonde kid, if its a flashback or what and then he rols up his sleeves opens the bag and it unfortunately clicks

I may be missing everything behind it,just seems random to me

Just started watching the new episode, I'm hoping there's no more scenes like Otto's opening scene, almost turned my stomach.

That was hard to watch. I wonder what the significance of the kid storyline is beyond him likely being Dave Navarros son?

I presume the gun the kid used was from the small deal the sons and nero done with that hispanic gang. Weapon will be traced back to the sons I guess.

Plenty happened in the first episode, so it will be interesting to see where it all develops.

Oh yeah before I forget, nasty scene with Otto. Couldnt finish me porridge

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,418 ✭✭✭curry-muff

Yeah, his mother was with one of Neros gang, the gun was his, and it will be traced back to SOA.

There's obviously going to be a huge crackdown from ATF, and cue an even larger role for Toric.

I was convinced that the blonde kid was in the same school as Abel and Abel would be involved somehow.

Great start to the season. I'm guessing Bobby is setting up the Nomad Charter again (which was disbanded at the start of last season which was why the three guys working with Clay ended up in Charming). Juice said they only need 4 members to set up a charter so I think that's why he wrote Quinn's name down. Wonder will he take anyone from Samcro. Maybe Juice but then again Juice seems to have accepted what happened and took his beating from Chibs (that was a great scene too).

Disappointed that the guy who replaced Pope now still wants Tig. No need to go over all that again and using the fact that Pope's daughter was pregnant (which was never mentioned before) as part of his reasoning for it just seemed pretty clunky to me. Be interesting to see what they do with it this time. Tig having killed the guy in the bathtub will probably come back to haunt them (again, rehashing him killing Pope's daughter).

Wish they'd just kill off Wendy at this point. All she seems to do is show up when Abel's in danger, say she's going for custody, be threatened not to, goes away, comes back when Abel's in danger again.

Other than that, an interesting start to the season.

Step son, there isn't a drop of Hispanic blood in that kid.

Well that opener was quite shocking and disturbing, I have a feeling that Tig will be killed off this season

Is there really any need for a post such as this? It adds absolutely nothing to the thread and doesn't generate any discussion. Plus anyone who may accidently click the thread will have the entire episode spoiler on them. If your entire post is just bullet pointing the twists and shocking moments then use the spoiler tags.

Far as the episode, well it was one hell of a way to start the series and it's clear that Sutter is preparing us for the endgame. The blonde kid was plain odd and felt, at first like a flashback but the second we Primo walking into the house things were put somewhat in perspective and it was obvious that this was one storyline that wasn't ending happily. Genuinely shocked that FX let them air that scene, especially given the debacle and controversy over Hannibal earlier this year. I thought that it was a beautiful and brave moment and the writing displayed a maturity the shows been lacking in recent years. The way the blonde kid was worked into the overall episode was impressive. He repeatedly crossed paths with Nero and Jax's and one expected him to be yet another piece of collateral damage in either of the groups power plays. You half expect the Iranians to pull up outside the cafe and open fire but thanks to the writing we were constantly being surprised.

So many great moments in the 60 minutes and a number that were surprisingly emotional. Juice getting a beat down from his closest friend was melancholic yet therapeutic. He can finally start to put his misdeeds behind him and get his life back on track. I've always loved Juice as a character so I'm glad that he's not, as of yet being written out.

The Otto scene was brilliant. That Sutter would allow such a degrading scene to be written for him shows just how much love he has for the show. Couldn't see many other actors agreeing to it and what really made the scene was the fact that with his tongue gone, Otto can no longer say no. The look of pure terror on his face was quite affecting and the glee that Toric took in his suffering was palpable. You got the impression that Toric's only regret is the fact that it wasn't him raping Otto. You really have to love how each season there's a villain with a grudge against one member who decides that this grudge should extend to the group as a whole. Toric gets his revenge every morning when Otto is further degraded but much as I like Logue as an actor Toric feels tired and cliched. The final montage reveal that he's a junkie felt like someone ticking the boxes on villain 101 sheet and I'd happily see Toric killed off soon.

I kinda like how there was a somewhat optimistic feel to the early scenes and a real sense that this season Jax may be able to steer the club right but the show does love to lull you into a sense of security only for moments later to once again pull the rug from under and send you deeper into the dark. Straw may be one of the grimmest episodes to date but as excellent as it was, at times it felt like it was trying too hard to be dour and grim. I would love to see Sutter work the school shooting into the series and use it explore the self created hell that all of the gang are living in. Jax is heading toward a reckoning and from where I'm standing it's not going to be anything other than a shit storm of epic proportions.

As for Bobby, well I really don't give that much of a damn. I love Mark Boone Junior but much like Toric, Bobby feels played out and it's only a matter of episodes till once again he's smack bang in the middle of Jax's world.

Special mention has to go to Peter Weller who was absolutely fantastic in his brief moments. Really hoping that we see more of him, which is pretty much guaranteed given that he's directing a number of episodes this season. I'm constantly surprised by just what a remarkable actor he is. Anyone who watches the rather excellent Longmire has seen him pop up every now and again as Longmire's haggard old mentor. In it he looks and feels old, real old yet here he looked fit and young enough to take on Jax and walk away the winner.

Seeing as discussion of the new series is split between this thread and the Series 6 one, I'm going to post my thoughts in both. Figure that for the time being it's the easiest thing to do.

If you are going to post major spoilers then it's best to use spoiler tags.
[ SPOILER][ /SPOILER] Just remove the spaces from after the bracket and then post your spoilers between the two.

I know the thread title says spoilers but anyone could accidentally click into the thread and have the episode ruined on them.

I'm aware of the thread title and expect spoilers but a list of all the episodes twists is a little inconsiderate as anyone could simply click in accidently. My post was full of spoilers but none you'd pick up on based on an accidental glance.

Kurt Sutter has written this degrading scene for him himself. ;)

I knew that he wrote the episode but I read awhile back that another writer came up with that scene. Can't find the article atm but it spoke about how one of the writers thought of a scene where Otto would be degraded in the worst possible way.
