    I just downloaded IE beta 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/ie8/getitnow.mspx).

It seems good! I like the coloured tab groups and the web slices! Good ideas - I haven't seen them before either.

Accelerators are cool too. Is it possible to remove the searchs from the accelerator rightclick? Also, you can't get the accelerator menu inside a text box (such as the one you write on with boards) which is a shame.

Did they implement porn mode on it?

Yep! They call it "InPrivate browsing" and has an "InPrivate" icon up in the address bar.

4 flavours of porn mode ... including one that clears all sorts of buffers, cookies, cache, history, thumbnails ...the works.

Porn mode? Thats why I have Safari installed ;)

Seriously though. Why cant MS just release some sort of standalone version of it for us developers. As it is I need 5.5 (Still handy to have), 6 and 7 installed to check web sites on and I use standalones for 5.5 and 7. Its not perfect but its the only way :/

Cant see IE8 becoming very main stream for a while. As it is most people are still stuck between IE6 and IE7, many offices not switching yet to 7. IE really aint great for those of us having to develop sites :(

    no

    Look at IE6
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
Total download size for a typical installation is approximately 25 megabytes (MB). However, because Setup downloads only those files that are necessary for your computer, this size can vary between 11 and 75 MB.

But surely you don't use IE specific code to develop sites like most of the government sites do, maintaining the monoply of M$, pity the Government and local authorities don't take a leaf out of the French governments book and wipe M$ off the face of their PCs and end the endless waste of taxpayers money on licience fees.
