Would WWE own the rights to the mankind/cactus jack/dude love characters?

Most likely for Mankind, but Cactus Jack and Dude Love were his characters before he started with WWE.

But even if WWE claimed rights to it, it wouldn't matter. He's had some of his more popular matches under the name of Mick Foley, The Hell In The Cell at No Way Out 2000 is a fine example of this. So i doubt it would make a blind bit of difference.

I worry about him in TNA. I think his pride has been hurt by the lukewarm receptions he has been getting from WWE audiences and he wants to do more to try and cement his legacy in wrestling.

I just hope we're not going to see Mick throwing himself off of things or subjecting his body to too much punishment.

I'd prefer to see him come in as a commissioner-type figure and use his mic skills. Then maybe start a slow build to a match with someone like Abyss or Christian Cage.

Alas I fear he will be wrestling in the first PPV possible and jobbing to 'Black Machismo'.

In fairness to TNA though, Cornette is a great speaker and more than a good enough GM. I think that they have a few matches that are certainly going to be worth seeing, Abyss vs. Foley in particular but then after that, he'll be wasted

I like Cornette as well but I think Foley would be more effective in the role and would make the show more appealing. It might also attract some of the fans who remember him from his role as commissioner in 2000.

If it was me I'd have Foley replace Cornette and have Cornette replace West. It won't happen of course but one can dream!

I can't feel sorry for him for getting lukewarm receptions, he's had the most amount of retirements in Pro Wrestling history to date. If you keep disappearing and coming back every year, fans will stop caring. Obviously this is what has been happening his last couple of comeback attempts in WWE.
I just hope we're not going to see Mick throwing himself off of things or subjecting his body to too much punishment.

I can't see him doing a lot of much in ring work these days, he's in horrible physical shape.

I hear where you're coming from here, but Cornette does a pretty good job of that by himself, so Foley would be out of a job in that respect. Foley v Abyss i would enjoy for their two styles, but i don't see Foley v Christian being a success at all.
Alas I fear he will be wrestling in the first PPV possible and jobbing to 'Black Machismo'.

I'm guessing you don't actually watch TNA then. ;)

But how many fans back in that era have tuned out of wrestling since then? Nobody really knows that for sure, so it would be a hell of a gamble.

That wouldn't be a bad idea, but i still prefer Cornette where he is. Now Foley as a replacement for Westy would work for me :D

Foley commish role very overated. Assuming Micks on a light schedule what we need is top notch promos and 4/5 matches per year although have a feeling its gonna be more

At tonight's TNA Long Island house show, Mick Foley officially debuted, making a brief speech saying he believed in TNA and loved the product. He hammed it up with the crowd and said he hoped to make an "Impact". Foley received a big reaction from his hometown fans and led them in chanting the names of his youngest sons, who were in attendance. Foley came out to his old school "Born to be Wild" theme music from his early days on the indy scene.

Poor guy, mentioned he who is not to be mentioned.

Now on to his post, which is going to be useless as he isnt able to reply for another 10 days, and by then this thread is going to be longer than the waiting list for the driving test

    Sorry, way too off topic..

Does anyone else agree with the idea that the comish role is overrated?

    I dont, heres why:
Mick can cut a promo like no one can, or at least no one except a chosen few has close to his ability.
Having him in a "management role" uses this advantage of his mic skills greatly, it means he is on screen quite regularly.

This isnt a go at you but people use the word overated WAY too much. But I agree with the rest of your post. The Commish/GM role is more overdone than overated in my opinion.

The word overrated should be used for people like Kane..Hes not that good imo..:D

this is another instance to where overrated is used way too much.

Kane is not overrated, he is disliked more than he is liked.

But this goes back to my point of the word overrated being over used. Who actual rates him in general? When someone just says "Kane is overrated" this implies they are talking about the entire fanbase, in the other words speaking in general. If they are speaking in general then the statment is untrue as few people relatively speaking do rate Kane outside a small minority of obsessives in my opinion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

I think they mean overrated in terms of his position in the WWE and does not deserve a brands PPV main-event, even if it is in a multiple man match.

As for Foley, I doubt TNA are going to bring him in on a short contract just to be in a GM/Head of TNA Management role. I can't see him doing anything but wrestle.

I read his three autobiographies and Tietham Brown. Loved his first two books, liked his novel, HATED the Hardcore Diaries. A fourth book should be good if he held back in other books, but listening to his appearance on the Opie & Anthony show from the States he has no intention in burying anyone in WWE. If his fourth book is about his unrequited love in his pseudo father/son relationship with Vince and the difference in sniffing Knockout’s knickers over the Diva’s then I’m out.

    About another book.

Personally I won't buy another Foely book to read about the negativity of WWE. I'll buy another Foley book because they entertain me and I really enjoyed reading his three autobiographies.

I was in the same camp as you were before the third book. But Hardcore Diaries was padded to **** and Foley completely lost all proportion when it came to the build up for One Night Stand. Even his writing style could save it, I feel the book actually did a major disservice to his legend. Hitman (Bret Hart's book) this was not as Foley didnt come across as sympathic in the slightest.

The whole thing. Are you saying Foley goes looking for sympathy? Or what? Confusing.

Kinda off topic, but kudos to the both of you for even bothering going to all that to watch the PPV.

Thankfully my dad has gotten sky+ so i think i will be availing of that. Although, i am still going to read the spoilers first thing tomorrow morning in work :p

On the idea of foleys book/s, i read parts of have a nice day and said i would get around to it at some point.
But i got Hardcore Diaries, and as i had nothing to compare it to, i really had nothing to lose.

Although when i was reading it, as i got past his description of One night stand, i did feel that i was at the start of each narrative i was eagerly awaiting the next one.
I wanted him just to get to the end of the story of whatever he was going on about.

In saying that, if he is writing a fourth book, he obviously has just started it. Which could make for some good reading if it would cover all this that is happening now.

    IMPACT Spoiler:
    TNA Impact Spoilers for Thursday
Opened with a Samoa Joe promo saying the same thing he's been saying, about how Sting isn't dedicated to the cause because he doesn't work a full schedule even though he's paid so much.

A.J. Styles & Christian Cage b Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin. Sabin & Shelley flipped off Christian after the match causing a pull-apart

Curry Man & Shark Boy & Super Eric b Petey Williams & Johnny Devine & Jimmy Rave. Devine & Rave turned on Williams. Lance Rock joined in and shoved down ref Shane Sewell. Sewell went berserk on him

Robert Roode, James Storm and Jackie attacked Hector Guerrero. They announced a match for tomorrow night with Beer Money vs. LAX with the losing team losing their manager forever

Sting did a promo for the PPV

Booker T b Jay Lethal when Val cost Lethal the match

Rhino & Taylor Wilde b Kip James & Velvet Sky. Kong laid out Rhino and Wilde and they put bags over both of their heads.

Show ended with Jeff Jarrett doing a promo saying that Sting was wrong and Joe and Styles are the new stars of wrestling and he's jealous. He said Joe and Styles made TNA before either Sting or Booker were with the promotion. Angle came out and challenged Jarrett to a match, but Jarrett said he wasn't ready. Jarrett said he knew someone who would face Angle and pointed at the screen where Mick Foley was shown.

WTF? I hope this just a tease or swerve.

I have to agree about the Hard Diaries, the concept behind it was a good one, less another autobiography but more intended to give people an insight into how a angle is thought up and played out (At least in Mick's mind), but sadly it didn’t turn out like that, partly because the angle didn’t turn out exactly the way Mick planned but mostly because the sections in the book relating to anything from Baseball to Mick being interrupted pulling the stomach off himself to a porno took the book more off topic than the "Music review" paragraphs in American Psycho, except Mick's tales were a lot less funny/entertaining than those (I Think he used up all his funny stories in the first two books).
I actually prefer Mick Foley to walk away from wrestling for good and concentrate on writing fiction, I found Tietham Brown very enjoyable.
On the subject of him holding back on dishing the dirt on people in WWE, is it possible at all that he actually likes everyone and doesn’t have a major beef with anyone?
(Not being smart I’m seriously wondering), I’ve always pegged him as the nicest man in wrestling, pretty much on friendly terms with everyone? (Even Flair in the last couple of years)

    ^^^

you mention "dishing the dirt", and make a fair point indeed. I actually thought that the background info he gave in Hardcore Diaries was just as interesting, and probably as revealing as you'll get, it was seriously absorbing.
But, at the same time, it completely turned me off the guy (creatively), because i think his opinion of himself and Terry funk and booking for 2005, was completely ridiculous.
So for me, he dished the dirt on himself.

Loved Tietam Brown, until about the last twenty pages, when i threw it down in disgust.

You should read the section in the book Ring of Hell about WWE writers if you enjoyed that or alternatively hhunt down the Powerslam which had an article written by Matthew Randazzo about when goes on in the writing room.

Speaking of the writers, does anyone know what sort of contribution if any Mr. Prince Jr. is making? I know he's working under Hayes on SM.
if we see Ganrel or Vampiro hired we'll know Buffy's been in his ear :D (Maybe she's behind Elijah's Black Pope gimmick ;) )

Yeah I enjoyed Ring of Hell. More so for what you mention, the direct quotes and stories from the writers, rather than the overall tone, and blatant hatred of the author for wrestling.

Not a fan of the book personally but for the reasons you gave above the section about WWE Writers is the most believable to me well outside of the Dave Laguana stuff of course.
