Ireland hosted the 2008 Bingham Cup, one of the largest amateur Rugby Union tournaments in the world. The Emerald Warriors RFC represented Ireland in the international competition, which took place in June 2008 in the grounds of DCU. After many grueling matches they got knocked out in the Quarter final stages of the plate competition.

Now we are beginning the 2008/2009 season. We have started pre-season fitness and we are going to be competing in the J4 league and also enter the Union cup which is a biennial European gay rugby tournament in London next year. We will also hope to establish and develop a strong set of players for Bingham cup 2010 venue not decided but likely to be North America.

To do all this, we need players who can commit time, graft and discipline to further strengthen our numbers and profile whilst also enjoying a social atmosphere. We are looking for players both new and experienced, no previous rugby experience is neccessary.

If you would like more information on how to get involved, have a look at http://ewrfc.ie/. You can also contact 086 24 24 977 or email membership@emeraldwarriorsrfc.com

Good on ya lads you’re out there playing the game and as you said you have to learn the game; you can’t walk onto the pitch and be as confident as a team so early on. You'll get there.

This is the start of the building blocks. Most those other teams have been playing as ateam for years!

I was in San Francisco last month for a few weeks and met their local Gay Rugby team, they were trying to recruit; I think they’re called the San Francisco Fog’sThey showed a photo of you guys (Emerald Warriors), which was taken over the last six months.

I had all intention of attending your match in Monkstown (couldn’t make at the last moment), as a supporter, love rugby and played when I was a kid right in to teens and early adulthood. I wish there had been a team like yours back then.

Alas to old and unfit now but can still try and support you.

Keep up the good work! Congratulations. :)
