    Hi Carol
I moved your post to a new thread.

Now, torque is a unit of measurement for power output. Transmission is your gearbox effectively.
Are you looking for figures or parts?

    A little more info required.

300D would suggest it is quite old. Can you give the first 6 numbers of the chassis number eg WDBxxxxxx
I assume someone has told you that you need a new transmission and torque converter. Are you looking for new, rebuilt or used?

I can give you a much more detailed answer once I know what you need.

    Hi Mr. Diagnostic,
thanks a million for your reply. As you can probably tell I'm not a mechanic!!! Yes, transmission and torque converter is what I need. I don't have the chassis number at the minute but I do know its a '92/'93 model. It was my father's pride and joy and after he died my brother-in-law moved it with the hand-brake on, so he wrecked it.

Ok, now I know what box it is.

Buying used can be a problem because it would be difficult to find one that does not have starship type mileage done. The only way to know if a used box is good or not is to fit it. That can get very messy and expensive very quickly.

Your best bet would be a rebuilt box and a reconditioned torque converter. If you are anywhere near Dublin I can PM you details of a good trans specialist who will do this for you.

I'm in Kilkenny but maybe I could have it couriered down. I'd manage to pick it up somehow

You would have two choices. Either leave the car to them or have someone local to you remove the box, send it up to be rebuilt and refit it when finished.

There may be someone more local to you who could rebuild it but I don’t know anyone in the trans game down there. The reason I would recommend this guy is because I use him and I know he is good. Also he does a lot of Merc boxes so has a lot of experience of them.

I will PM his contact details now.
