A US report on global airport security has criticised Ireland's private airports for allowing the "vast majority" of flights to come and go without being checked for drugs or contraband.

"If you take all the airports in Ireland, all the little ones and the big ones, Weston is one of the only airports in Ireland that we believe no drug has ever come through," he said.

i don't know how he can so sure.


maybe its a hollywood version of private airports but i thought certain users could drive up to their planes and get on, is that not true, when would various users get checked?

"It is understood that of the 20 private airports which can accommodate flights from abroad, 12 are listed as having no customs presence or only having a customs presence when required prior notification is given."

Customs at Dublin in my opinion is also very disappointing.In the war against drugs I think that Customs needs to be given more powers and a greater presence ie. patrols of the coast(maybe coastguard even) and an Australian style Customs in Airports.

All passengers arriving at LHR Terminal from Ireland this evening were 'sniffed'. Some flights were greeted by customs when Door 1L was opened. I suppose it has been said that Ireland is any easy door for drugs to enter the UK.
