    i thought this might be a cool idea, anybody out there wanna share the meanings of their tattoos?

    im sure theres some good stories out there! why did you get a joint-smoking banana between your toes? what does that bullseye on your foot mean to you? etc etc etc blah blah blah.

    i decided to put this up cos im thinkin of getting my first (and last) tattoo but wanna get something meaningful rather than any old junk.

    anyhoo, anyone wanna share? throw pics up too!! :D

    My meteor represents the struggles humanity faces but if we work together we can achieve anything.

    The women represents unconditional love and its beauty.

    The next part that goes on represents never forgetting loved ones.


    To most people they look like japanese cartoons but not to me :)

    I got my Koi fish because my favourite Goldfish died when I was 6 and I really missed him.The toilet on it represents the Heaven hes moved on to.

    I've two.

    One fleur de lis for my love of all that's southern states (the metal more so!), and another design that I thought looked cool.....that's it. Thinking about my latest one now and going through a few designs.

    Well for me tattoos are more about remind me what I was going through at the time. It's only about mental symbolism rather than visual. The experience of getting the tattoo manages to forever remind me of what I want it to represent.

    The only tattoo I have that people regularly ask me "Hey, what does that mean" is the one around my wrist (Which is my kids name in binary).

    My Fern tattoo is just incase I forget where I'm from. Seriously.

    My 'oh so naff' kanji (supposedly!! :P) means inner strength after some sh!te that ive gone through

    Sorry for hijacking the thread here, but I think it's kinda relevant. There is a prank website called zug.com. A few years ago he pranked a co-worked who had a tattoo in chinese. It's well worth a read. http://www.zug.com/pranks/tattoo/

    got my two shining stars on my wrist with my little brother, he got the same tat in the same place to represent us.

    My Koi piece is for several reasons. Koi are fascinating creatures in themselves, but I also love what they represent in Japanese mythology/culture. Fish also have a special place in my heart for other personal reasons that are probably too personal for a forum! :p

    Thats all I've got so far, I have several ideas but placement is my main stumbling block.

    I've always loved mermaids and would love a mermaid tattoo, but I cant have a river and a sea creature near eachother* so she can't go on my back as planned, I'll talk to the artist on wednesday when I'm getting more Koi ink added and see what he thinks.

    I LOVE animals and they are a big part of my life (I run a pet related business) so also want to put my dogs (three of them) somewhere. :rolleyes:

    Oh and I'm toying with the idea of a really cute cupcake (birthday cake!) to mark my 25th birthday next week... something cutesy and pink to prove i'm NOT old yet! :D

    *Yes I'm fully aware how anal that looks, im a virgo and I'm not apologising for it!! :pac:

    I got my meteor and stars ffor my niece who died,i got my dragon cause i just liked how it loked and got my geisha cause i wasnted something a bit different.Thers no other reason for my other tattoos i just got them done.

    three of mine remind me of a time in my life, both good and bad, but they're all times that ive made it past and learnt and grown from. the other tattoo is just to represent both the genius that is jeff martin, nad a certain aspect of my personality that will always be there, and will always be a part of me.

    My tattoos mean that I'm a badass mofo, or something like that.

    Or they could mean something completely different to me, symbolising things that I've been through in the past.

    Future tattoos that I'm planning will be just because they are cool.

    Although I might be able to come up with some BS about what they 'mean'... ;)

    Well the little kanji symbol on my ankle means 'dog' in Chinese. I got it after my first dog died. I was actually going to get a little picture of my dog tattooed on to me, but when I went to the tattoo artist, he said that to get the detail he'd have to do it pretty big, otherwise it'd just blur and look crap. I didn't really want anything huge cos it was my first tattoo, so I thought the symbol would be a nice thing to get.

    The butterfly on my other ankle is for my Grandma, for various reasons.

    Then I got cherry blossoms around the little kanji symbol, just cos I've always wanted a cherry blossom tattoo, and thought they'd look nice there! :)
