It's been tough being a Raiders fan for the last few years but finally I think we've turn a corner. We have probaly the best secondary in the league, if we can help stop the run then we'll have an excellent defense this year.

????? Best Secondary in the League ????? The only reason ye have such low passing yards against ye is that nobady needs to throw against ye because they have run all over ye and just run out the clock. Sometimes people read too much into stats.

    Who said anything about Stats?

Nmandi Asmoughwa - It's either him or Champ bailey for the bet CB in the league, and there's no question about that.

Deanglo Hall - A very highly rated CB who would be the number 1 CB on alot of teams in the NFL. Defintly one of the best 2nd CB out there.

Michael Huff - He's been out of position every since he was drafted in the first round, this will be first year playing his his prefferred safety spot so I expect him to have an excellent season.

Gibril Wilson - Just won a a SB and while not one of the elite saeftys in the league he still excellent and would make alot of teams starting 11.

Eagles and cowboys are the probaly the only other teams who can put up an arguement as to who has the group of players in their secondary.

Secondary is more complicated than just having 4 big names as your starters in the corners and safties, there is a lot more to it than that. You have to consider the other corners, lbs and safeties who come in on 3rd down and other packages. Hall and Asomugha are great man to man coverage guys but they wouldnt be able to play cover 2 defense, which is one of the most difficult passing defenses to play against. Raiders play a lot of man to man so they are very supseptable to the big play while cover 2 and other similar cover packages give up small yardage plays.

Id consider the Colts and the Bucs' cover Tampa 2 pass defenses as the best secondaries in the league.

I dont it makes a huge difference if your giving up loads of small plays or the occasional big one, if you cant stop the moving the chains your ****'d. The raiders tried alot more Cover 2 last year then usual man to man and I expect to see them do the same this year. I think that the main reason Lane wanted to get rid of Rob ryan.

so tampa and colts are the best justb ecause they play tampa 2?

packers have been looking sharp, impressed by Rodgers i must say

Hall 75 is killing the Pack with stupid penalties!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

he wont be seen much after this month so shouldnt be a problem long term

great return there and some fantastic blocking, gotta say it again, im impressed tonight. packers playing very well, rodgers looks like a natural leader all of a sudden and the team is still the very good team they were last year

Have to take into account that the Vikings have been brutal!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

    :pac:

they havent been up to much no but then again, i dont think they have been allowed to, the pack was good last year, an overtime away from a superbowl appearance dont forget, i think they could do well this year since Rodgers looks so comfortable out there.......i do like a QB who can get you a decent scramble now and then too :)

Terrible game for us really, watching the game and coming up to the 2 minute warning I just had no confidence that we could move the ball down field and score to take the game.

I should have confidence, im a god damn fan of the team. But I didnt, that performance just did not do it for me. We are better than that, I know we can do better than that. Already looking forward to the rematch against the Pack.

Anyway, enough about the Pat's. The big game is tonight.

It's been tough being a Raiders fan for the last few years but finally I think we've turn a corner. We have probaly the best secondary in the league, if we can help stop the run then we'll have an excellent defense this year. And with such an impressive stable of RB's we wont have any trouble running the ball.

Our lack of WR's is a worry, especially with it being Jamarcus russell first year starting but I expect a big year for TE Zack Miller(definite fantasty sleeper). Again our o-line is awful on the passing front but once he gets a small bit of time in the pocket he should be able to dump it off to DMCalot.

I am most looking forward to seeing Michael Bush, I think he'll be an excellent RB and hopefully a brilliant 1-2 combo with DMC for years to come. The fact it's the broncos tonight makes it even better.

    Prediction: Just win baby.

All going to plan so far anyway! :pac:

It will be the same this year aswell probaly. Either way, I doubt many neutrals will be tuning into to watch the games.

    Yeah true that.

Just reading that Croyle has a seperated shoulder and may be done for the year, leaving us stuck with Huard again

so tampa and colts are the best justb ecause they play tampa 2?

No, many other teams play Tampa 2, like Detriot and Kansas City. The Colts and Bucs implement theirs very efficiently without having all big names in their secondary. Also there is a lot of contributing factors which allows them to be more efficient than other secondaries like their great pass rush, etc.

It does make a difference giving up small plays vs big plays as your weakness, as it makes a huge difference in the redzone.

But to say that the Oakland Raiders have the probably the best secondary in the NFL is ludicrous when they wouldn't be considered in the top 16 secondaries.

Sorry about jumping on this. It was only because you were so pedantic with my post.

Watched the Pack-Vikes game last night and was impressed with Rogers.

Bone headed penalties could have lost the game for the Pack but I suppose ya got to cut some slack for the season opener.

Pack D stuffed the run faily well but O line seemed a bit disjointed.

Pack D never got a legal glove on Jackson ,but Vikes D was solid,so I wouldn't worry too much there.

All in all a good outcome.

:eek:What was Bigby doing running with the ball after the interception???

As the commentator said, "Only bad things could happen with that kinda stuff."

The game is over fall on the ground!!! bring back Leon Lett.;)

    I disagree with you hayze

Raiders have the potential to have one of the best secondarys in the league, but Rob Ryan isn't much of a coach. I still regret the raiders not making a play for monte kiffen from tampa. Was big rumours in the off season.

Monte Kiffen is probably the best DC in the league, he has done an unbeliveable job down in tampa they have had consistently one of the best defences in the league for years.

It would have been weird if Monte became the DC for the Raiders, the father working for his son as DC. A lot of Head Coaches have siblings working for them on their teams but the other way around would lead to a lot of awkward conversations at the dinner table.

It would make for arkward conversation. But davis put a stop to that.

At some stages of the game, ryan tried to do some zone coverage, and the players being poorly coached showed. It is very visible on one of the long touchdowns throws,

I feel for Lane Kiffen, he has the potential to be a good coach, but is caught between a rock and a hard place.

I watched that game last night and the Raiders were frighteningly bad. Russell was not getting much time early, but when he got it he made a few blunders, he seemed to improve as the game wore on but I would not be convinced on that showing, that dropped ball was horrible.
The positive were the RB's, McFadden looked good but he got very little time on the field and Fargas looked really good too. The o-line looked a real mess and it seemed like a team of guys who didn't have much time to read the playbook.
Defensively they were all over the place as well, getting caught out a lot between the lines.
A lot of work to be done for the Raiders.

That must have been painful Chucky.

I dont think it would be to bad for them. I presume Lane would just let Monte at it and would leave him alone. AFAIK Lane did want it to happen and there was talk of it but Al put a stop to it by not allowing Lane to get rid of Rob Ryan.

Either way I definitly cant put to much blame on kiffin for how bad this team is. When your not allowed pick your own coaching staff/players then your up **** creek really.

As for the game it was just like last year. Very good running game, no passing game, no pass rush game.

At least are run defense has gotten a bit better. Our pass D was awful, I dont really put to much blame on the secondary as it's pretty hard to be expected to cover someone for 10 seconds or so. We put no pressue on Cutler at all and I dont even think we touched him all game. Our defense had the excact same problem last year and one of the reasons Lane wanted rid of Ryan.

It looks like it's going to be the same as always, a **** season, a new HC in the off-season AL davis picking the fastest players in the draft no matter what. rinse and ****ing repeat.

I actually thought Russell had a good game, one of the few good points. 17/26 180 yards and 2 TD's isnt bad. Our O-line is awful, would you be happy having Kwane Harris defending your blind side? Our WR are muck aswell. Zack Miller is the only reliable guy he has.

Eagle - The performance wasnt really pain as they have performed like that for the last number of years. But I actually thought we turned a bit of a corner and was midlly hopeful for this season so that what made it painful.

Sunday, Sept. 7 Seattle Seahawks at Buffalo Bills 1 p.m. FOX : I fancy the Bills here. They're an improving team and the seahawks are on a downward turn. It should be very very close though. If the Seahawks stop Lycnh early then they'll prob win but I think Lynch is going to be a real star this year.

Fukc me. Have you any tips for the 2.30 in Doncaster? Spot on here and Lynch did much damage. Seahawks have a ****e record on the east coast and the rain didn't help for game 1 with all the new bodies. Hopefully we can turn it around for the next 2 games at home. If not this will just be the worst year ever for Seattle sport.

Even a blind squirell finds a nut every once in a while! :)

I actually think the Seahawks will struggle this year, it's hard to deal without your 4 WR's and Morris aswell. Of course given that the NFC West is the worst division in football ye should still make the playoffs although I think the cards will sneak it myself.

You are right but my fingers are crossed that they can get it together. In Holmgrens last year it will be a disaster if we don't win the division. Sonics gone. Mariners absolutely suck on a massive scale. Huskies are looking for coaches head 2 games in. The Storm and the Hawks are our only hope right now. And we've got the Sounders in the MLS next year to look forward to:eek:
