Isn't he doing medicine/ training to be a doctor or something, which requires insane hours of study and work, he'd be doing amazingly well balance the two. Will he even stick with IC GAA?

He only has one year done afaik and quite a bit to go yet before he's qualified

How can you say he'll be one of the greats anyway, he didn't even have a brilliant champ, bar the Cork game and was solid in Leinster nothing more

He could go on to be mighty, but including him in this is laughable frankly

Might aswell include Cillian O'Connor YPOTY 2 years in a row, probably 3 now

Do you think so, I wouldn't even have it as a close contest Whelehan was a far far more complete and accomplished player, McMahon was a great leader but I think he's long range scores are what keeps him in peoples mind more than his all round game. No mention of Brian Corcoran either, even in the honourable mentions?

To be honest I do rate Brian Corcoran but I would have been too young to remember him in his prime for Cork. He retired for a couple of years and I only saw him for the 2 or 3 years he came back for which wasnt enough to impress me. He was a great hurler though and from what I saw of him he wouldnt be too far off. Ill never forget that point he scored on his knees

Brian Corcoran always gets omitted from these things which is ridiculous. He was the best hurler I've ever seen, just so happens that his best years were 92 to 99 when Cork were truly awful. He was class after his come back as a ball winning full forward but you'd never pick him on a team like this based on those displays, despite some classy touches. Points in 04 and 05 finals, scrapping for the ball in the corner in the 06 semi-final in the final seconds v Waterford, the point on the knees v Limerick, the drop puck goal v Waterford etc.

His best year was prob 98 actually, despite being hurler of the year in 92 and 99. He was like a one man back line when Cork won the league that year. His displays on sunny days v Clare and Waterford in the semi and final were unbelievable. In the championship win over Limerick that year in the Gaelic Grounds again he was inspirational. I remember actually watching as Mike Houlahan was about to substituted but he was ordered from the line to go back in and he went straight in on top of Corcoran. Next ball came down and Corcoran of course won it, burst past about 3 lads and cleared down the field. Next thing Corcoran gets a pull across the back of the legs from Houlihan, who gets duly substituted at the next stoppage of play.

Stop Corcoran and you had Cork beat. That was the idea anyway. He got up and just played on though.

I think one of the main reasons Damien Fitzhenry makes these lists is because we got used to seeing him making so many outstanding saves on account of how often he played in Leinster finals against Kilkenny teams who created several goal scoring opportunities against a declining Wexford team! I rated James McGarry just as highly as Fitzhenry/Cusack/Fitzgerald but the best all round keeper I have seen has to be Brendan Cummins.

I think the reason he doesn't feature as much as he perhaps deserves to is his versatility- in these lists, good all round players tend to get sacrificed for a player who would be a specialist in a particular position. Ken McGrath also comes to mind, I'm not seeing his name as often as his talents merit, had he played for 12 years at say number 8, he'd probably be a shoe in for a midfield position on 90% of teams listed here.

I don't think it warrants the shock response to be fair, Mullane and Deane have been around for donkeys of years compared to Canning so as of now it would be fair to say that Mullane/Deane will go down as greater hurlers. Give Canning the same amount of years on the field and you might think different. The season just gone it's fair to say that Canning wasn't great, but the one before that, I'd take Canning at his best over Deane/Mullane any day. That said, it remains to be seen if Canning can put in a few more seasons like last and put this one behind him. Being a Galway supporter I hope that he does :)

Are you actually serious like?? No Henry Shefflin, probably one of the greatest of all time and Joe Canning is in there even though hes has achieved nothing of significance yet. He certainly has the potential but 2 good seasons doesnt make him a great. This year he was very mediocre with the exception of the goal in the leinster final. Id have Shefflin in there over any of those forwards any day of the week even DJ Carey. I had Eddie Brennan in my team and he was a tremendous forward but he doesnt even come close to anything Shefflin achieved despite playing in the same teams as him
